Those who considered bringing him back have been sacked.

 

Not at all. I love Palps as much as anybody, but he's dead and his story is over. Any attempt to bring back a character that died 30 years ago aint gonna fly.

 

So, Mother Talzin's spirit will force him to become ... a wampa?

 

Flashbacks, I really don't think he should return. It just wouldn't feel like Star Wars having him come back...although they did bring back Darth Maul.

 

First, let me say I do NOT want him to come back.

But IF if he did... well, we don't really know what that blue light explosion thingy was at the end of ROTJ, so I suppose something could be done with that in terms of an explanation.
What if Palpatine in episodes 1-6 was actually possessed by some ancient Sith demon or whatever, and when Palpatine died, the blue light that we saw was the demon (or whatever you want to call it) escaping, and heading off to inhabit somebody else's body? It would be a way to keep the essense of Palpatine in the story, and it would also tie in to the rumored title, "An Ancient Fear."

Bad idea? Yeah, definitely. But since this thread is about if he DOES return, I guess it's not much worse than any other idea, and it's a bit more original than a clone.

(really, the only way I'd be okay with seeing him return is if he appears on an old recording, but I'm not sure that really fits the criteria here since that wouldn't really be him RETURNING, per se.)

Luke is in the bathroom taking a dump, then all of a sudden Palpatine appears in from of him as a force ghost. *Come with me, and together we can rule the toilets as Master and Apprentice.*

 

How about the image of his face appears randomly in a crisp or something? And someone says, "Hey look, that looks just like Emperor Palpatine"..*munch*

now thats a name i havent heard in a awhile, i remember him with dehrian, grilled sarlaac and a few others.

 

Palpatine is over and should never retain his identity in any form. He was a selfish, myopic old man who lied about being able to cheat death. Bring on the Sith who could actually do it.

 

I do like the idea of Palpatine reappearing as a Sith spirit trying to resurrect himself to power. It reminds me of Kyle Katarn trying to stop Tavion. He would probably have to possess the body of someone to do it instead of cloning himself over and over again. This creates the perfect situation for him to seek a descendent of the Skywalkers and to use them as his pawn instead.

 

I would prefer that he be gone... utterly defeated by the Skywalkers.

But if he MUST come back, force ghost mentor for the new baddie.
