ST Poll: Rate the Trailer

Let's see just how far out of the mainstream some are.

 

I stay out of streams. I loved the teaser, though.

 

Loved it!

 

I actually prefer all of the prequel teasers over this, but they were also unveiled closer to their respective release dates, about 6 months out.

 

New Star Wars...what's not to love?

Kidding aside and being more critical: It had fun, a sense of urgency, JW music, and a hint of the mythic vibe I love in SW. The one minor, minor quibble I have (the brief shakey cam shot of the stormies) really can't be judged well in the context of a trailer, so no deductions for that.

It has me eagerly awaiting the film, so it did it's job.

 

I'm in the middle. Some cool stuff, but no real wow factor for me.

 

I loved all the visual aspects, but what was the best part for me was the feel of urgency.

Each scene had major energy.

 

I voted loved it because it did exactly what it was supposed to do, it offered a tease of what's to come and whetted our appetite for more.

 

Somebody said they thought that the droid felt out of place because the rest of the trailer showed people in action or tense situations, but as bobbyroberts pointed out, even the droid is hauling ass for some reason.

 

Absolutely. It even sounds excited!

 

Loved it. Going by the teaser alone, I really think this film will return the SW brand to being a top-tier franchise up there with the Marvel franchise. That a 37 year old franchise can still be a heavy hitter is quite remarkable.

 

Loved it. Near perfect teaser, IMO. Could only have been better if they teased the Big Three, but I suspect they are holding them back for impact.

 

Exactly. If you hold back the Big 3, you create more demand for them. Smart JJ, smart!

 

My son and I were discussing this yesterday. If the teaser is creating this much excitement, imagine if the first full trailer shows the big 3. Doing it this way also preps the audience for the fact that there are new stars and it won't be two hours of Han and Luke.

 

Although Han and Chewie are suggested to us via the Falcon.

I like that they are only suggested.

 

True, and if people got excited and nostalgic over the x-wings and the Falcon I think it will be nuts to see Han, Leia, or Luke on screen again. I know I'll go bonkers if they do it right (and the teaser gives me faith that they will).

In fairness, it's only a teaser, and this is a SW fan board. Only the most dedicated contrarians here will hate it outright.

 

I don't love it or hate it. The teaser itself really didn't do anything for me in terms of making me more excited about the film. I know it's being made. I know there's a LOT of work still to be done so what they showed was based off of what little they've finished. No plot, characters, direction, or identity to the conflict (unlike the AOU and JW teasers), but still it is a year off. Some things looked very video-game-ish.

In all honesty, if they hadn't released the teaser we'd be in no different mindset.

 

That's why I like polls. The one or two contrarians can give the misleading impression in threads that a lot of people share their view. We see (so far) that's not the case.

I also think that means contrarians should be argued with less -- unless one is bored.

The reason they should be argued with less is that when they are in a small minority, their negativity is just as likely to come from disposition than authentic disagreement.

 

"It's OK". I probably would've voted "I like it", but those lame mini-sabers popping out..

 

Maybe for you. For me, it made the film that much more concrete--I now have a small sense of what it'll be like to see the film proper.
