I was watching the extra features for Star Trek (2009) and (to paraphrase) they were saying things like..."There is tremendous pressure to shoot digitally, but we felt strongly that we wanted to shoot the movie on anamorphic widescreen with real film like old John Ford pictures to give the movie more realism."

So do you think he'll abandon that philosophy to go the full 3D route?

Yes...I am sure they will have too in order to maximize the profits...hopefully it is just a conversion so that we can just choose to see it 2D if we(read I) wish!

I certainly hope not. Not a fan of the 3D gimmick...and I thought that ship had sailed in the 80's.

If its going to be 3d then go 3d all the way. Don't do a post conversion. Don't half ass it.

If the 3D actually pops out I wouldn't mind, TBH.

I've never liked 3D, I much rather to just see a HD 2D version but with the way Films are going now they probably will, I was not a Fan of the Hobbit in 3D

I want to say no. But there is no way Disney is going to let Star Wars be strictly 2D. I say it's shot with 2D setups, and converted to 3D.

After the major 3D releases of the rest of the movies and Lucas's opinions of the newer 3D technology, as well as Disney's, I'm guessing the movie is intended to be in 3D.

Not a fan of 3D, but for the sheer size of Disney's investment, and the fact that they're re-releasing the others in 3D, this one's a no-brainer. Disney doesn't do anything half-assed, so shooting in 3D is a lock on this one.

Dave Filoni recently remarked that the new Star Tours is a good clue as to how the future of STAR WARS will look. I don't know if he was referring to just the quality of the visuals or also the 3D.

I think it will be shot for 3D. I'd rather it be shot "old fashioned," but Disney will want to provide continuity with the now re-relased 3D conversions. Also, MONEY!

I don't give a bantha's ass about 3D. That said, if the movie is remotely good, and I expect it to be spectacular of course, I will see it at least once in 3D. I think Disney knows this thus 3D here we come.

It seems "the thing to do" now for big blockbuster movies of SW caliber. I'm sure it will be filmed in 3D. The SW movies were always pushing the envelope with technology, and I wouldn't be surprised if that continues. Even if it IS conversion, I wouldn't mind-SW would be great to see in 3D, and even the conversion method has made leaps and bounds in quality over the last few years.

Plus JJ Abrams filmed Star Trek Into Darkness with 3D AND and IMAX camera-proving he's all about embracing the cutting edge movie making Technology. Also, this decision isn't entirely up to JJ, is it? He has a say, but I'm sure there are several other producers and whatnot that do as well. [face_thinking]

I'm not getting why this is something to be polled. Are we Disney shareholders?

Since they are gonna charge us for 3D they better shoot it in 3D, so it's not an embarrassing rip-off like the Avengers post-conversion. It will be a very bad sign if they don't go HFR as well, as if JJ was too lazy to use state-of-the-art modern equipment. I know people say just watch a 2D screening, but good luck finding one of those. They may not even exist anymore in 2015.

I don't care, i'm going to see in 2D anyway. Shooting in Imax, now that would be spectacular and enhancing the experience on the big screen
