He was good in that he wanted to fight poverty. He was bad in that he wanted some sort of crusade against secularism, to the point that he was willing to ally with any other kind of religion to do so. Also, he seemed to think that his personal beliefs meant that it's okay to be against equality for gays.

I hope he will be replaced by a more modernist and reformist Pope, but I'm not holding my breath.

And the new one probably won't be good for Nazi (or Palpatine) jokes like old Benedict was :(

Cut the guy a break. He's out of work, and when he was in work it was WalMart.

Judging by your posters, Lebron will be the next Pope

Very. The last time a Pope resigned was almost 600 years ago.

If you take the "Po" out of Pope and replace it with "Ra" you get Rape. Just sayin.

Retiring, huh? I'll bet he gets one really dangerous assignment a day or two before he retires, that's how these things always happen in the movies.

Isn't popehood for life? I thought you only leave in a coffin, like a real gangsta'.

So, does a living ex pope still get a Popely funeral when they eventually do die? I assume it's going to be a retirement with a duration similar to that of Joe Paterno, the former Pope of Penn State. For non Popes, don't they usually just dry the corpse in a convection oven like beef jerky and then cart the remains into the Vatican basement?

    lol

I thought they hook their severed heads up to car batteries in order to communicate with the afterlife.

The news states that the last pope to retire was over 600 years ago, so I would assume there is a precedent for it, I also recall Pope John Paul II considering retirement around 2000 or so but decided against it.

I really hope the next pope has a proper coronation. The last three haven't, and it's been a huge disappointment.

I know people have been fixating on other reasons to be upset with the universal church, but this is my reason.
