What, like a reluctant hero? The antihero of popes?

 

The Catholic church has done some pretty sketchy thing over the past 1000 or so years. Dividing up and giving out land that didn't belong to them, endorsing slavery, letting witch burning slide, burning people alive in general, I mean lets face it's It has enough blood on its hands to drown a beluga whale.

But we are all about forgiveness here, as long as they keep there nose clean we can let bygones be by gones.

 

No kidding, surely that's happened enough already.

I'm hoping it'll be more like he'll be to the pope as antimatter is to matter. Because that could be amazing.

Yes absolutely, an institution of such unfettered arrogance should be allowed to continue its proud tradition of utterly destroying lives, dating back centuries. I do see your point; the Jews are no different to the Africans they browbeat into never using contraception to facilitate the spread of AIDS. I would like to hear more about Catholic morals, though. And forgiveness.

I wonder, can we use the length of time taken to forgive the Jews their "crime" of deicide as a yardstick for how long we leave it to forgive these c-words?

Okay, I'm deliriously tired, and I have to keep double reading things to make sure I'm registering the correct words... the last pope quit in order to end an "antelope crisis."

1) wtf is an antelope crisis?
2) How does one end one by quitting their job?

yeah antipope already means when there's a schism and you've got two dudes running around claiming to be pope one of thems an "antipope". he ended the crisis by resigning and saying "okay dude w/e you're the "real pope" have fun dawg geez" (actual quote). i have long maintained that ozk is destined to be an antipope. there's been a thread about it (jp?)

 

I am not actually catholic, though I did go to catholic school (loved thoes girl uniforms), But Holding a grudge against the church is not healthy, It will drive a man mad.

And lets face it, The United States Government, French and British and most european colonial governments and their sucessors by association, have not only engaged in arrogant actions and genocides, they have largely gotten away with them. (You don't see the Chinese flooding Britian with their answer to Opium)

The older an organization is, the more evil it is likely to commit by the brutal nature of our world.

All you can do is forgive, for ones own sake if nothing else.

I doubt that. He'll be going to a monastery on the grounds of Vatican City, so he won't be leaving the Vatican, and even if he wasn't, as a former Pope, he'd probably still be under Vatican protection, so it would probably take a literal act of God for him to be prosecuted for any role he might have had in the sex abuse scandal.
