I saw a reference on the Population of Coruscant being 1 trillion. I looked at this for a bit and this is what I came up with.

I made a assumption that Coruscant is roughly the same size as Earth. Coruscant's length of day and year has been listed very closly to ours so I feel this is a fair assumption. The total surface area of the Earth is 197 million square miles.

I then looked a US Census data for New York County(Manhatten). The population density for Manhatten is 67000 per square mile. I think that this is a very conservative amount to go by. I would think that the sq mile population density in Corsucant would be much more, but I used this figure anyway.

    197 Million sq miles X 67,000 per sq mile = 13.2 Trillion

I think this is a very conservative number, but much more realistic than the 1 Trillion made in the earlier reference.

We saw in AOTC that not the entire planet inhabited though. There are surely lots of huge industrial areas that no people live in.

I imagine that the poles of Coruscant would be too cold to live in, and there should be Mountains, volcanoes, river valleys or some other places not suited for people.

I understand that there would be large areas on Coruscant which would not have populated areas. Thats why I kept the conservative figure of 67000 per square mile. How much higher are the buildings of Coruscant than in Manhatten?

So that line in TPM about the hole planet being one big CITY was a lie?

I always thought the 1 trillion figure was way too low.

Perhaps 13+ trillion seems high but I don't think you are that far off. Even if large portions of industrial areas are uninhabited you might take out...what...maybe a trillion here and there?

I think someone just decided, "Hey, duh, trillion is a big number."

EDIT: But I'm forgetting the buildings on COruscant are many times the size of our Earthly ones, even 13 trillion could be very low. I could swear somewhere on the Tech Commenataries a listed estimate was around 100 trillion but I could be wrong.

The planet of Coruscant is an entire city. It has building soring maybe a mile or even higher. If it is roughly the same size as Earth I will give an extremly rough estimate of as little as 8 trillion to as much as 20 trillion residents.

There is no telling how much beings there is on Coruscant...just no telling.

It will be best to as George Lucas.

One of the Visual Guides stated manyof the Coruscant buildings as being...I think it said...20 to 25 thousand feet tall.

In any case, the light never touches the ground in many places, that's how gigantic most buildings are -despite Han Solo being able to dash to the Senate Hall from the casino he was in at the time (don't want to look up the name, same one he won Dathomir in) in mere minutes, cuz that was total bollocks. I think your 13,x trillion is very (too) conservative. I read that many ppl living on Coruscant never leave the building they are born in, because even that is too big to explore in a lifetime...you figure the rest.

I don't recall the artists name, but he did the cover work for a re-issue on Asimov's Foundation series. The center of government is a city covered planet. The comment that the artists made had to due with the difficulty of scale.

When looking at such a cityscape some of the buildings viewed in the background near the horizon may be the size of countries in order to view them from just above the cloud tops.

Manhatten is itself is something like 11 miles long and 23.5 square miles, approx 1.5 million people live on the island.

I would say that Coruscant has the same population as Earth in other words
    around 7 billion people!

to be more exact, 6.2-6.3 billion people.

20-25 thousand feet buildings is just, wow.

If that's so, then each building could hold up to 1 million people or more.

No chance! We have deserts and oceans and forests where nobody lives in, Coruscant is just one big city where most of the planet is inhabited, 7 billion is way too low, I think 5 trillion is a good enough geuss, but someone moght come along and say "that's way too low!"

On the Tech Commenataries, given the density of NY, assuming Coruscant is Earth sized(It's actually suppossed to be bigger), and everything but the poles are covered by buildings many times the size of the NY skyline, a possible maximum of 1,000 trillion is estimated.
