Considering that today the porn industry in America is RUN BY WOMEN one cannot criticize it too much. Porn can be a very sensual, beautiful, exciting thing to watch - but too many (men) also find excitement in the idea of female domination and abuse. (like getting excited when the girls expression is pain). The movies/pictures/magazines that exploit that are dangerous and disgusting. There definitely needs to be more porn that explores realistic sexuality more than dangerous fantasy. Example: ever hear of the Bukkake movement? Sick...

A large percentage of prostitutes are also managed by women. I saw a documentary recently on African prostitutes in Italy. Virtually all of them were controlled (and terribly abused) by women.

The fact that there are a lot of women running America's porn industry means nothing.

Bukkake? i dont think we should be discussing that here. But stuff like that originated in Japan. The truth is the most repressive societies have the most bizarre forms of pornogroaphy, Germany and Japan. I wont go into what they are, but you could find outyourselves if intertested

"The fact that there are a lot of women running America's porn industry means nothing"

It means everything. It means that the women A) Aren't forced to do something they don't want to do (in mainstream porn).

    B) It means the women get paid a LOT of money.

    C) It means the women can be PROUD of what they do because they have AUTONOMY

    D) The women know what they are, and don't mind what they do.

Also - you're argument is flawed because just because you've seen an example of prostitution doesn't mean that it correlates with a different culture's form.

Just thought I'd jump on the bandwagon late as usual...

[blockquote]But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery in his heart. (Matthew 5:28)[/blockquote]

Having never intentionally looked at pornography in my life (I've accidentally seen some by being idiotic enough to open email from someone whom I didn't recognize - haven't done it since), I don't know first-hand how pornography would affect me. However, I can see from reading this thread that pornography can cause one to lust for a member of the opposite sex. With that and the verse above in mind, I feel that I need to stay away from pornography.

However, many of you probably won't agree with me on that stance, so I submit to you the following:

[blockquote]All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. (I Corinthians 6:12)[/blockquote]

Sure, it may be lawful for you to view pornography (or to drink, smoke pot, or do any number of things that others might think immoral), but is is really helpful? Can it lead to an addiction?

But as to its legality, I have somewhat unusual views on this. I come from a very conservative branch of Christianity (the conservative churches of Christ) and I spent a great deal of my life in Montgomery, Alabama, so I have the moral values that are often thought of as stereotypical of Southern Christianity. But when it comes to the legality of something, I don't think that the government really has the right to tell me what is and isn't moral. The laws we have now concerning, murder, theft, rape, etc., have more to do with keeping order and peace in this country than with the morality of such actions. So when it comes to something like pornography, which, for the most part, doesn't disturb order and peace, I won't tell you that you can't do it. I'll tell you that you shouldn't, but I won't tell you that you can't. That's not my place.

    Since when did:

    a) lust become ingherrantly evil / wrong.
    b) the bible become a moral guide to life.

    ???

"he doesnt treat those people like human beings because in his eyes they arent"

No, I am against porn because I view the people in it as human beings and not just sex objects.

    "Since when did:

    a) lust become ingherrantly evil / wrong.
    b) the bible become a moral guide to life.

    ???"

Since we accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. But as I've stated before, I don't want this thread to be a religious debate. I try to approach the issue of pornography from an entirely secular point of view.

Please say "I" and not "we".

Because not all of us are Christian or have accepted Jesus Christ.

    So please use "I".

When you use "we" it comes across as if we all have.

TFU, please remember that not everyone in the world is Christian, and please also remember that not everyone in the world is of the opinion that all you have to do to be saved is to "accept Jesus as your personal Savior."
I'm sorry if I offended anyone by bringing Biblical references into this argument, but I feel that religion and morality are very closely tied, and to me, as a Christian, my morality is defined by the Bible. If I have offended you, please inform me privately and we can try to work this difference out.

Sleazo earlier in the thread you say that pornography is not sinful. How? I doubt that the two people in it are married, and of course the Bible says you must be married first. How can you defend that?

    Powerful Jedi,

one, you're assuming everyone is a Christian
two, you're assuming that everyone that is a Christian follows and believes every word in the bible, I can assure, that is far from true. Even the most strict denominations tend to pick and choose, though they heartily defend why they are doing so.

Pornography, IMO, is any type of image that is purposely created with the intent of causing sexual arousal in the viewer. I have no problem with art that has nudity in it or anything.

TrainingforUtopia, I hope you don't watch Coke adverts then, because they are designed with the 'intent of causing sexual arousal in the viewer'

If you apply your own criteria there is not much you can watch at all. Also - what about something that is not 'designed' to cause sexual thoughts by it's archietect but does cause sexual thoughts in some of the viewers of the entity. What then?

Does this not prove that the definition of Pornography commonly used is a very personal opne and therefore is malicious when applied to others?

Powerful Jedi, so, is it ok to be in Porn if you are married?

Actually, I do think a lot of commercials these days are slightly pornographic, which is why I hate the media. And I don't watch much TV anyways.

quote: George Carlin: I dont like porn. I'll be watching it, and it ALWAYS starts off with some really attractive chick playing with herself a bit and she sort of becomes my girlfriend for the next few minutes. ...and then some guy with a[ehh...censored] comes and starts[fornicating] with my girlfriend.

I have a hunch the signature refers to the dancing jig that Hitler did after Germany took Paris.

Sleazo and Riggs, if you hold to that how can it be sinful or not? The definition of being sinful is something displeasing to God.
If you don't believe in him how can something defile him?
