I don't believe it is sinful. It's hard to put into words WHY, but basically I just don't think if there is a God he is sitting in heaven going "oh, you looked at a Playboy, see you in hell!"

Well, I can't speak for any other Christians, but I don't believe that porn is an automatic ticket to hell. We all sin.

Some of it can be annoying, particually the 'soft-core' porn. As with all industries though some of it is unfair to certain groups and as with all industries inequalities and the like should be routed out.
As an artform though I find 'porn' to be very stimulating and satisfying. I also find the backlash from the so-called catholic church, or rather it's self appointed representatives rather amazing.

But, ce la vie (sp) , life is what you make it. Live and let live eh

Yeah, all young children should watch porn. It liberates minds!

 

I watched lots of things you would consider wrong as a child. Yet i some how turned out ok. While i was able to see dirty harry movies, death wish etc. this has led me to enjoy on screen violence while being extremely anti war, not getting into fights, never having fired a weapon. At the same time even though i was very young when i saw a naked woman on a movie or tv screen, the only thing i learned was to appreciate the naked form of a woman. I respect women, as any of my former girlfriends or friends can tell you. Watching these thing s as a child have not led to any negative effects for me. That is what i meant when i said maybe you should have watched some nudity as a lad

 

Sleazo: You argue that he cannot tell you what you should and should not do. Fine. I don't care, you're probably right. He shouldn't. But neither should you. And I hardly think that, just as you said you are not profoundly screwed up by watching pornography, that the sole reason someone could be profoundly screwed up is by NOT watching pornography. How ridiculous.

Sleazo if you think I'm telling you what to do, I'm sorry, I don't mean that. I'm just telling you what I believe. However back to the topic at hand, you might have watched porn and turned out fine, but I'm willing to bet that more young kids get messed up watching porn, than young kids that don't.

Let's just say you take a 5 year old to see something like Hellraiser, it's sorta like that.

 

I saw the shining when i was that age and i have no desire to kill people. usually i am giving people too little credit due to my misanthropic views, but most people can differentiate between the movies and real life.

 

Sleazo -- you are just one person. And (since you like Star Wars) you're obviously more intelligent than average. (sorry, a little blatant generalization there.) The fact is, statistically, we could not even begin to study whether pornography screws people up unless we had a simple random sample of at least 30 people who all started watching pornography/violence at (insert young age here), preferably more like 4 or 5 hundred.

 

I still dont believe that viewing a naked person should cause any damage to a child. And as far as violence, using movies as a scapegoat as to why people commit violence is just that, a scapegoat.

 

Let's face it, 90% of porn isn't what they call softcore, so just to play the percentages most kids would see filth, and the other 10% would still be IMO wrong if the couple weren't married, HOWEVER, I do believe that if a married couple makes a film for themselves and don't sell it for profit or for other people to gain gratification from I believe it's not wrong, because they are married. Also don't you think because a minor can't buy it from a store, shouldn't view it.

No i dont agree with every law. That statement is a tad bit silly. I actually had a thriving playboy selling business when i was in the third and fourth grades. I bought my nintendo with that money.
Kids were very happy to pay top dollar for playboys and i was very happy to take their money. You have to realize i am not a christian and i see nothing wrong with what people chose to do with their personal time, whter it is viewing porn or creating porn or selling porn.
