So far we had Empire's End in February, Thrawn is coming in April, Inferno Squad in July. We know The Last Jedi is going to get a novel adaptation. That leaves a blank space in and around October, with a star wars novel. Do you think their will be a 5th book?
I'm expecting some form of Ben Solo/ Kylo Ren novel to be announced at Celebration. Keep in mind it doesn't necessarily have to reveal much about Luke, Snoke etc. It could be just like Weapon Of The Jedi, Smuggler's Run. Have NOTHING of importance happen in the story yet be marketed to exploit TLJ hype.
Early post-RotJ Luke, perhaps - the beginning of his quest for Jedi lore, meeting Lor San Tekka, etc. Nothing that gives away too much, but a few hints.
We'll almost certainly be getting the first book of a new trilogy in the fall and probably one other novel towards the end of the year if they follow the schedule for 2015. The trilogy will likely focus on Luke.
You know that at somepoint there's going to be an Adventures of Luke Skywalker post ROTJ ongoing comic or TV series. I think they're keeping Luke's goings on very, very vague right now to give that outlet the most freedom in telling that story.
After the movies, the most important information has been going in the novels and what Luke is up to is perhaps the most important storyline there is. The comics and animations can cover the less significant adventures and events.
It's crazy to think that we've only had one Trilogy/series of books in the new canon so far. I don't think we are going to get anything new Luke related until after The Last Jedi comes out. So maybe next February.
You forgot to mention Rebel Rising. 2017 Novels Aftermath: Empire's End - 21.02.17 [Post-RotJ] Thrawn - 11.04.17 [Pre-Star Wars Rebels] Rebel Rising - 02.05.17 [Jyn Erso and Saw Gerrera story] Inferno Squad - 25.07.17 [Inferno Squad vs Gerrera's Partisans] The Last Jedi Novelization - unannounced [The Last Jedi story] A list of the names, current release date and whatever hints we got to what they are about. As we can see on the month numbers, there will be a five months gap of novels. We should be getting another one in that time, to be honest.
Is that supposed to be important? I thought all sort of star wars novels was popular. Like, junior novels for instance aren't as famous as the regular novels. I listed the regular novels of 2017. Or have I missed out on something?
Ostensibly DR only do the "adult" novels, with Lucasfilm Press issuing other age ranges material. One of the things that is unique with the new material is a lot of the best stuff is from Lucasfilm Press.
Which is why I mentioned rebel rising because it was forgotten. I do think Lucasfilm Press has slightly different age target though (like JB said), Ahsoka is said to be a young adult novel and they published that. (And of course, a lot of small young readers and junior novels I guess)
Not really, but Del Ray probably doesn't care when Disney–Lucasfilm Press is releasing books, so it's probably not relevant to this discussion.
I'm certain they coordinate to make sure they're not flooding the market and impacting their mutual $$ intake.
