Possible event on Sat 30th June, Wallsend - BLUE DOOR PROJECT

Nige and I have been chatting about a possible fundraiser for The Blue Door Project, the provisional date being Saturday the Saturday 30th June.

As some of you know, I run a social care project for adults with learning disabilities called The Blue Door Project, based in Wallsend (North Tyneside). We provide support to adults with mild, moderate and profound learning disabilities and their families.

We have been hard at work trying to build a therapeutic garden for our service users - all proceeds from the day would go towards topsoil, plants and other materials for our garden.

It's still very much provisional at this point, but I am considering all sorts of options like a photo booth, SW raffle, Tea and Cake stall, Barbeque and possibly a few stalls selling SW and SCI FI related items.

Everyone connected with the project would be invitied to attend with their families and friends, additionally I would publicide the evnt in the local press, flyers etc.

I could arrange press coverage of the event from the News Guardian, The Chronicle and possibly local TV/Radio.

Would anyone be interested in turning out in costume, if the event goes ahead? I can probably muster some support from a few mates as Stormtroopers, I can go X-wing pilot, Nige as the Emperor/Naboo pilot....

It's all for a very good cause and if it comes together, I think it would be a good day.

I would Love to attend and being a Gardenier maybe I could help in any way ie I know a few people who you could ask for help in setting up a Garden !

As for attending in costume I should have my New Costume by then if you dont mind a few jedi turning up

He's got a prob with his armour - he's stripeed the paint off or something to repaint it, so it's out of action at the mo unfortunately.

Not sure about this, more because I now have three weekends in a row when I am doing stuff and weekend before I'll be either in a) LA or b) London. Way flights are going it'll be London.

 

Thanks for the support so far folks - but please bear in mind this is still a PROVISIONAL date.

I am conferring with the rest of the Blue Door Team and chasing up leads on possible raffle prizes, a band etc etc...

This event will definately happen, but it may still be postponed until a later date if it's looking tight to get everything together in time. I wan't this event to be a really good one.

I'll update the thread here as soon as a descision has been reached and a final date set.

Just updating the list, as I now have something else happening on the 30th and as this is still provisional, I won't be able to attend. I'll keep an eye out to see if the date changes. If it does go ahead on the 30th, then I hope it goes well
