Puffer fish are also a very expensive form of sushi. A sushi chef needs to go through years of training and an exam to be allowed to prepare that kind of sushi. Mainly because if you get the wrong part you die!

 

There was a pretty funny episode of the Simpsons about that.

 

Ah yes, I have heard about the blowfish sushi. The key is to eat a small amount so that the poison gives you a rush but not enough to kill you.

 

Well technically any spicy food is poisonous. It's just not poisonous to affect humans. But that is why it tastes spicy, because the poor plant is trying to discourage you from eating its seeds.

 

I know in Japan that they are experimenting in creating a toxin free fish so that all sushi connissuers can enjoy it worry free. But then where's the fun in that?














You know, suddenly I'm hungry for sushi...

 

Eeeew, nasty!

Fish needs to be cooked! Otherwise it should stay in the water.

This was taken over 4th of July weekend at a local Convention.
We were Vampire Hunters! (hence the STEAKS in the picture)

 

I was on a two week fishing trip to egypt, and we wasn't able to eat all the fish we caught, so some was put back in the water. Yes they puff up when frightened (and when we take them out of the water). I'm not sure if they are poisenous but the local fishermen don't take them either.

Yes, huge teeth eh? Reminds me of a beaver.

 

I've never wandered out of the local fan board til now ...

Oh good, thats what I wanted to hear. I've always liked puffer fishes since I was a little kid and first went to Sea World. I didn't know they had buck teeth and an overbite, he needs to go see the Dentist Fish. Lucky you for getting to go to Egypt too by the way, I've always wanted to go there.

Did you get them out of the Nile?? We weren't allowed to eat or swim in the nile because of the parasites there... I suppose cooking the fish would kill them though. So no nile sushi

I was on Lake Nasser, the big artificial lake that was made when they dammed the Nile in Aswan.

I've heard of these parasites, but they only appears down stream from the lake. On my previous trips, there was (by coincidence) doctors among the anglers, and they had all made a little research beforehand, and said there was no danger at all. But we don't drink the water and all fish are cooked before we eat them.

 

I got that a couple of years ago at Hot Topix.

Here's one on ebay.

It's a XXL, but that's all I could find.

Hehe, that's cool, harpuah. I think because FF isn't wholly net-based we are a lot friendlier here. When a user is completely anonymous they are free to be as nasty as they want - without being banned, of course. Anyway, very glad you are enjoying it here!
