The FanForce board has sunked so low that stuff like this is being posted. I haven't even heard anything about Star Wars in the few active threads we have.

Funny, I'm pretty sure I've seen a few threads pertaining to Star Wars, hehe. And besides, the concept of FanForce is with an emphasis on community first, then Star Wars. We have to work on the community part first [face_laugh]

hey! I'm on a computer! (and this is rare)

I've got a plan though, I will be able to be on the computer during the hours of 8pm to 10pm on week days excluding Friday. Then on the weekends I will be on from 1pm to 2pm and then again at 7pm to 10pm.

    yay!

No offense but if you're using a PC for video editing, you clearly don't know that much about video editing.

No professionals in the industry use WinPCs, at all. Ever. They use Macs and SGI workstations exclusively. Nobody would be caught dead running Windows and using a PC to do serious video work.

For one, PCs are slow computers. You can read all you want and be a huge PC fan and all this nonsense, but if you can find a PC with 4 x 2.5 Ghz processors with each 2.5 Ghz processor running at about the speed of a 3.5 Ghz Intel processor, I'd sure like to see it. Because right now, the top of the line Mac is about 2-3 times faster than the best possible PC money can buy. PCs are the Happy Meals of computers, just like Honda Civics are the Happy Meals of cars. Trying to argue that a Honda is faster than a Ferrari is just a sure way to make yourself look stupid. Trying to argue that a PC is a better computer in any meaningful sense than a Mac is sheer nonsense. Anyone who has ever used both, and I came from a background of using PCs for more than a decade, knows that Windows does not compare to Mac OS X, any version. Windows is the worst operating system ever created. It's inefficient with its memory usage, it's slow, it crashes constantly, it doesn't provide very good user interface, it's hard to navigate and find windows (ironically) compared to Mac OS X, it has a poor search feature compared to OS X Tiger, it is inferior in absolutely every respect.

Furthermore, PCs have a max allowable RAM of 4 gigs typically, I hear there are a few models expandable to 8, but Macs have been expandable to 8 for some time now. In fact, the newest Mac, the 4x2.5 Ghz processor model I talked about, two liquid-cooled, dual core G5 processors (unlike anything ever seen in a PC) can be equipped with 8 x 2 gigs of RAM, that's 16 for you math geniuses. No PC can hold that much RAM. And as anyone knows, RAM is like gold when doing photo editing, graphic design, or video processing. The faster the processor speed and the more RAM, the faster your work goes. Macs are far faster and more powerful for these purposes. They are the Ferraris of personal computing. You need look no further than inside of the two computers to see the difference. Look in your PC and you will see a mess of wires, cords built far too long, parts built by numerous manufacturers, sometimes completely incompatible. But look inside a Mac and there are no loose wires, anywhere, everything is designed aesthetically as well as structurally, so that looking into a G5 is like looking into the engine of a Ferrari. It was frankly a shock to me when I switched from PCs to Mac just how nice everything looked. PCs rarely ever innovate in anything, either. You know who came up with the USB port? It wasn't PCs ;) Yes, it was Apple that used USB ports in computers first, and now they are standard.

My computer runs dual 2.5 Ghz processors with 8 gigs of RAM, and I use Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Garage Band, etc. for video editing. Macs were also the first platform to use Avid, which is run by 95% of video professionals in feature film work. The other 5% is almost exclusively Final Cut Pro. Nobody uses Adobe Premiere, it's a terrible program. I tried using it on PC and it is not only non-intuitive but it lacks power. It's a far cry from Photoshop, unfortunately. And even worse, most amateurs don't use Premiere, either. Most amateur filmmakers use Final Cut. It's quite a powerful program, too, and some prefer it to Avid, but for whatever reason Avid is the industry standard. Even so, people don't run Avid on WinPCs, anyway, they run them on Linux machines.

Now if all you do is sit around and play video games, I rest my case, PCs really are better at that. Because PCs are made for gamers and for cheap businesses. It's far easier to make a PC as they are lesser computers in every respect, so of course a business with employees using mainly Excel, Word, and e-mail applications are going to have PCs. It's far cheaper to mass order Dells or IBMs or whatever than it is to buy everyo

Well, I must admit that I do not know much about the differences between PCs and Macs. However, one thing I do know is that Macs are a dying bread, except perhaps in the video editing fields. I can say this for three reasons:

    1. The main use of computers in the world today is for data processing (i.e. data bases), and for some reason most governments and companies use PCs to interface with their database networks. Therefore, most workers us PCs at work. Because they use PCs at work, they tend to like to buy PCs for home use so files and programs from work and home can run better, and because they have had better training on PCs from their work experience. Now it has always been my opinion that the Mac corporate heads have been stupid not to go into the database world. Perhaps they're just to pompous to concentrate on such a "common" application. I mean, "video editing" is so much more "sexy". But hay, they may like only selling 3 systems a year. [face_laugh]

    2. Mac has to much of a lock on their codes. If you look in any software store you can see that 95% of the software has been written for PCs, not Macs. This is because (1) it's harder to get the codes to write Mac programs, and (2) programers know that 95% (or more) of the computers out there are PCs, so why waist their time writing Mac software. I have always found it funny that Mac users boast about how Window systems are always being hip by viruses and spam, and Macs do not. What good virus or spam programer would waist there time writing programs for a handful of Mac computers?

    3. PCs are cheaper !!

Well, that's my 2 cense. Even if Macs are better than PCs, who will ever know but a hand full of Mac enthusiasts who like extinct computer systems. I mean.......wasn't Beta better also? [face_thinking]

Alright, you clearly know what you're talking about. I didn't even finish your post. But let me say, I do all my video editing on my PC, and it works at a speed I'm more than happy with.

Haha, oh my god. You are hilarious! I used a PC forever, I didn't switch to Mac so that I could get a "dying breed" of computer. There's this little thing -- you might have heard of it, maybe -- called iPods, and they've sorta made a bit of money. I hear 1 or 2 people have bought them. I don't know first half, you know, because I've only personally seen about 10,000 of them, everywhere, but you know... I think this strange company called "Apple" or maybe it was "Banana" or something made them?? ;)

Yeah see that kinda keeps them competitive. ;)

PCs follow Macs on virtually everything. You remember what graphical interface came first? It wasn't Windows ;) You know who stopped including floppy disks first? It wasn't PCs ;) There is nothing that a PC has done first before a Mac except BREAK and CRASH. ;)

Oh, I forgot run SpyWare, they're REALLY good at that. So good in fact you don't know it's happening.

Trust me, Macs are not dying, haha, it's just really lucky for us Mac users that most people are too stupid to figure out how to use a Mac... which is ironic because it's a lot easier -- you don't have to think about, "Oh well when everything stops working, I should hit the power button first, then unplug the computer, then throw it out the window if that fails!" No. You turn it on, it works. This is how machines are supposed to function. Nevermind. Keep using your PC, please, I don't want any SpyWare or viruses.

So what are these great programs that run only on PCs? I have an idea, I think it would be like: SpyWare Plus 1,000, Virus-Be-Gone, Windows-Fixit, Work-Damnit, Stop Crashing, Crash Protector, Auto-Backup for Hard Drives V3.28, Processor Speed-Up (Almost As Fast as a Mac!!!), Program Autolauncher (to restart your programs when you restart your computer constantly!), Internet Exploder Prevention, Virus Blocker 5,000, and Nerd Gamer Plus 2,000.

Yeah I'm missing out on a lot of programs, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, though. I used to play this game called "restart six times per day or more with PCs!' but since I've gotten my Mac I have discovered a much more fun game -- how many days of uptime can I get without restarting? I'm at 26 now. Wish I could say that was a record, but it isn't even top 3 :(

P.S. I personally think it's great that Apple is selling a lot of ipods, it will allow Apple to survive once Macs are dead.[face_laugh]

If you look at the website you took that from, and scroll to the bottom and read the sources bit, you'll find this sentence near the end:

"The market share figures above do not agree with reality."

If anything I would say that Mac sales have gone up in recent years, and will invariably continue to do so as more objective light is shed on the Mac vs. PC debate.
