This is something I've been meaning to ask since I learned we have some published authors in our midst.

What are the rules regarding the posting of fan fiction based on other JCers' published works?

Obviously, it's common courtesy to ask for permission. But is it actually required, or is it enough to check if they explicitly forbid fan fiction or not?

That is a really interesting question. [face_thinking]

We'd say that unless the author has specifically asked for no fanfiction, everything is fair game. It would still be good to inform them anyway, for common courtesy. If they then decide yes or no for fanfiction, it would be a blanket rule for everyone to follow. :)
