    BBC News

Actor Richard Griffiths, who starred in the Harry Potter movies and Withnail and I, has died at the age of 65 after complications following heart surgery.
Griffiths enjoyed a long career of success on film and on TV, but also on the stage where he was a Tony-winning character actor.
He was best known for playing Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films and Uncle Monty in Withnail and I.

I was sorry to see this. Even if I couldn't stand his Potter character he was a good actor. I enjoyed his Pie in the Sky TV series as well.

He should have lost some weight. He had a very unhealthy look about him as those films progressed.

Yeah, he was heavyset in the Pie in the Sky series as well. It definitely didn't help.

He was in HP so little that my memories of him are firmly rooted in Pie in the Sky. I can't recall if it aired on Sunday evenings, but it was that kind of show. :p

Yeah, Vernon was definetly a character that you loved to hate.

A shame. I liked him in a bunch of stuff, especially the film version of History Boys, and his short appearance as King George in Pirates 4.

I think it did air on Sunday evenings. Can't remember if it was BBC or ITV though. Old episodes used to pop up on UK Gold (I think it was there) after the series finished as well.
