What are they and why does Luke want them?

 

Obviously, they're devices that convert power. I'd assume he needed them for... converting power.

I always figured it was for his speeder or something, Toshi Station sounds like a place where you could get car-parts....speeder-parts.

So in conclusion, Tosche station is a club and power convertors is a drug/mixed drink.

My guess would be that they are parts for either his speeder, or his skyhopper.
Something stupid kids buy and install in their vehicles, like lighted exaust pipes or racing spoilers on a mazda.

Owen isn't real impressed by whatever they are, so I think that fits.

 

Doesn't Qui-Gon sort of mysteriously produce a power converter for Anakin to put into his pod-racer in Episode I? I dunno.

Regardless, I just always assumed it was something for his speeder, and that he and his friends kinda were like a lot of teenage guys--always tryin' to pimp their rides.
