Prelude to Rebellion #0

Does anyone have a working copy of the flash files, or at least scans of the now offline Prelude to Rebellion #0 comic that used to be on the official site? I'd really like to get a copy.

 

Any help would be highly appreciated.

 

Try wayback machine, but remember the comic online version was corrupted and buggy, and runs too fast on certain machines. It was this corruption that was the reason that it wasn't reprinted in the TPB.

 

Someone out there has to at least have scans/captures.

My personal feeling is that the whole "corrupted / lost" excuse was just a story that DH put out so they could avoid the trouble of printing them. Obviously, before the flash animations were created, someone had to create the art, coloring and lettering in some image format first. These files would be the ones to use when publishing them in printed format, not the Flash animation file. Anyways, even if the final flash version was lost, all the materials used to create it should be on somebody's hard drive.

 

No I know it was corrupted because it wouldn't run on my Pentium III computer it ran at hyperspeed. Where all other flashes work fine. Which is why it was taken down.

Yet you can still find all the other online comics on starwars.com, if you search for them. They work just fine.

But like I said if you want to see them use the wayback machine to see what they were like when it came out.

 

actually, I do have the scans, they are mostly pretty accurate, except that on the flash presentation, the text would transition in the same picture and I couldnt get it, it really wasnt much, and it didnt affect the story, but for the most part I got as much as I could

I don't doubt the flash files had issues, but what I was trying to convey was that I don't believe that the online version was all that existed. I've created flash files before, and you generate your .swf or .dcl files from a another file which you edit with Macromedia Flash or Macromedia Director. In order to create the online comic, they had to generate all the artwork and text bubbles first, then create the flash file. I find it hard to believe that the guy who created the online comic deleted everything else when finished.

If on someones hard drive all the original artwork and text image files exist, it should be no problem for Dark Horse to create a print version. All they have to do is track down the guys who made it. If anyone has the credits for the comic, we could track the guys down ourselves, and ask them to contact Dark Horse and send them the files.

I could also use some scans, whoever can provide them. This also bugged me when I tried looking for # 0 at TOS last winter.

I know Peet Janes wrote PtR #0 and I'm 99% certain it was the same art team (at least the penciller and the inker) as the rest of PtR. That would be Anthony Winn and Robert Jones.

 

I'm more interested in credits regarding the computer graphics and animation.

Whether or not you still have it, did anyone ever manage to copy the files and get the animated version to work offline (while it still worked)?

I've always had a theory of why the file stopped working on the official site. When the official site rearranged some directories and moved the online comics, prelude stopped working. The way I believe prelude worked was that the file acheck.dcr had links to the actual flash animated files, which loaded through it. My guess at the time was that when the directory structures changed on the official site, the animated comic stopped working because acheck.dcr was looking in the wrong places to load the files. acheck.dcr was used, in my opinion, as a measure to prevent people from copying the files for themselves as could be done with the other previous online comics: Mara Jade #0 & Crimson Empire #0.

 

I'm still curious if anyone out there has a complete set of credits for this online comic, including the computer animation. I'm going to try just a little while longer before I let this thread go.

Well, in fact it hasn't been more than a week, I think.

But my server is temporarily down, some bill that wasn't paid story...

It should be back online soon, nevertheless. At worst in 2 weeks, I'd say.
