Well, in the sequence they were told that they would be handsomely rewarded. Hence the pun.

Surprising to here criticism of the ROTS, over in LIT it's considered one of the best tie in novels as well as a great Star Wars book in itself. The fight between Dooku and his death in particular is some of the best Star Wars prose written.

ROTS is definitely the best of the bunch (though I like them all), but there are some issues with it. Particularly that the first 150 pages are dealing with the rescue mission and only the last 40 pages deal with the fallout of Anakin's turn (see: the duels). It really should have been flip flopped.

Iron Lord covered most of the details, but it was basically Kenobi going to Padme's apartment, urging her to help Anakin. He doesn't come out and directly say he knows they're in a relationship, but he implies that he knows she makes Anakin happy, and with all the turmoil going on with him lately, if she can continue to make him happy, Kenobi hopes she will do so.

At one point Anakin confronts Padme about Kenobi being in her apartment, and "sneaking out" . To which she tells him it's ironic he accuses Kenobi of that, considering he sneaks out of her apartment every morning. This kinda snaps Anakin back to reality, and he ends up dismissing the idea of them having a relationship.
