ST Prequel References in TFA

I don't believe there are any direct references by John Williams back to the prequels, but parts of the score definitely sounded closer to PT than OT.

 

Thank goodness. Here's a wild idea why not come up with a brand new story, that happens to be set in the SW universe, instead of rehashing a movie that's already been done?

The track Finn's Confession opens with a slowed down version of Talk about PodRacing from TPM.

 

And "Torn Apart" has notes nearly identical to the last part of "Anakin's Dark Deeds", which I would honestly be surprised if it wasn't intentional

 

Oooh yes great point, both sections of music employed when both Anakin and Kylo are on the verge of having their turns to the dark side sealed.

 

i kept telling people the soundtrack was better than they were initially giving it credit for. it's just a bit subtler than others. kylo's theme is actually frightening.

My first post since Sith 10 years ago! Not sure if these have been mentioned yet. When Anakin first appears in TPM, he is yelling at Watto in Huttese. When Rey speaks her first words she is yelling in something other than English for the scavenger to let BB-8 go. Also, when Rey pilots the Falcon she cuts off the engine and lets gravity take over, the same way Anakin does with his podracer. This might better fall into the Anakin/Rey parallel thread, but I thought these were intentional prequel references.

Thanks. I was very high on the prequels but not a big fan of the changes in the OT SEs. For this reason, shimmering Hayden ghost would not thrill me, but I'm looking forward to more PT nods in RJ's VIII. I've been consistently coming back to this thread since seeing VII. I like the all human first order officers like the OT Empire, but hope we get some more of the varied species back from the PT appearing in the next film.

 

Although Snoke appears to be humanoid, Wookiepedia doesn't give any information on his species.

And I don't know if anyone's noticed, but his scar kinda resembles Kylo's after his duel with Ren.

Most these "references" just seem like coincidences as opposed to intentional references tbh...

 

How would they be a coincidence? Just curious.

 

At the beginning of Ep IV after Leia has been captured :

Officer : "She'll die before she'll tell us anything."
Vader : "Leave that to me."

After Poe is captured and Kylo finds out the info is in BB-8 :

General Hux : "Well then, if it's on Jakku we'll soon have it."
Kylo : "I leave that to you."

 

Maybe we should start a OT reference thread because that's still not the PT.
