Rogue One Prequel Trilogy references in Rogue One

There was a similar thread this time last year in TFA part of the board, and that generated a lot of discussion. So let's have a similar discussion here!

What prequel references do you hope to see in Rogue One? Time wise it's certainly closer to the PT than TFA was, so perhaps we'll get a nice get bits that help tie ROTS and ANH together even better!

 

I think, so long as we get:

- a few small scenes with Jimmy Smitts as Bail Organa.

- a tiny mention of the Death Star's "Geonosian" origins (such as someone referring to it as the "Geonosian Death Star" project, which I think one official source has called it?).

- a quick off-the-cuff explanation to the audience that the Empire no longer uses Clones and recruits "Stormtroopers" instead.

Then that will satisfy me for connective-tissue to help tie the two era's together when watched chronologically.

I don't really think they'd need to do anything else too major to connect them...but any other small things would be good too!

EDIT: Visually, that rumored shot of Vader being re-built, and seeing some scared, burnt limbs being put together, might also help to remind the audience that he was once Anakin, but I think it would still tie together without it.

The Flashbacks probably take place right in the PT era. (Although they may not have any references.)

 

I think because of the time that has passed since the PT era it'll be more indirect references such as the Jedi statue that we saw in the trailer and the different styles of Stormtrooper armour, referencing the different Clone Troopers. If anything is a direct reference it'll be through Anakin/Vader as Bosskkkk said, that whole part of Anakin/Vader being built happened as the DS started to be built and are connected as is the birth of the Empire.

 

Yeah, it's probably just the Erso scene and they have cleverly made all the Imperial elements (the Shuttle and the Deathtroopers) unique designs.

I've said before that we know that the relationship between Galen and Krennec goes back to the days of fighting the Separatists.

So, I'd like their first visit to be Krennec escorted by Clone Troopers, which is then contrasted with Krennec arriving with Death Troopers. A way to show the Change of Government.

 

It would be cool if Geonosis gets a mention.

 

Yeah. Geonosis was still Canon in Rebels. They hadn't buried it in the storyline.

It needs a mention. I will be impressed (and surprised) if actual giant termites turn up.

And, I want a B1 battledroid. Just dump a nonfunctional one in the background when K2S0 is introduced.

mon mothma and bail organa played by their PT actors, vader played by JEJ, saw guerroro (clone wars tv show) and even the death star itself is now a prequal reference due to it being in episodes 2 and 3.

 

Besides the obvious references that are already there, I'm hoping we get several from Saw. Just talking about the clone wars in general, maybe a mention of Anakin, or more likely Ahsoka would be cool. Might also get some references to the jedi order/council/etc from chirrut.

I think some references could exist organically, but I HATE to think of them as "PT references." I prefer to think of them as simply being a link to earlier Star Wars history.

 

Agreed. I think this is going to be the film that really bridges ROTS to ANH and I think we're going to see refs from both films/ eras, in a way that won't be callbacks or nods per se, but make perfect sense given the time the story being told is set.

Towards the last scene when the plans are being sent to Rebel HQ, let's hope we can hear a Princess Leia voice cameo, thanking our heroes for their hard work and sacrifice... Setting the stage for the continuation of the Rogue One events in A New Hope!

The Order 66 or something about the Clone Wars. Maybe Saw Gerrera will mention the Separatist occupation of Onderon and how the Empire occupation of Jedha reminds him of those days.

 

Maybe someone in the Rebel briefing room will mention how they could really use a Jedi to help them find the Death Star plans, and someone else says that the Jedi are all dead. Bail would then chime in with "I may know of a couple survivors. If things work out in this battle, I'll send my daughter Leia to rendezvous with General Kenobi."

 

The most epic PT reference that can pop up in Rogue One?

Has to be any scene with the one and only Jar Jar Binks - maybe getting obliterated by some AT-ST on a day that he had to be in Jedha for some business? Which explains why he does not appear in the OT!
