I got my denim for my robes yesterday. It was recommended that I pre-wash it twice.
    Do I use detergent?
    Hot or cold water?
Fabric softener (it is already the correct color so I won't have to dye it)?
I'm going to hem it up tonight and then take it to the laundr-o-mat tomorrow. Need an industrial size washer.

A little bit of detergent to get the sizing out of the fabric. Wash it in cold water if you want to reduce shrinking. However, you will forever after have to wash the finished garment in cold water. Otherwise, wash it in whatever temp. you would prefer to wash the garment. I never wash any clothes on hot. So cold or warm.

Fabric softener would be ok...or not. It won't effect the finished garment so you could use it later if you wanted to.

my costumer made my jedi robes from brown brushed denim. she prewashed it before making the garment. i was told that i should dry clean it after that as it would shrink everytime it was washed and dried. it took about 10 yards of material to make.

    good luck
