Thanks everyone! I can't wait to see the finished costume too! ;)

Honestly, the embroidery really isn't that bad, though it takes forever. The part I had most is tracing the pattern out. It's a real pain in the butt!

Ladies, please help me settle an argument, the overcoat for the Bespin outfit is embroidered is it not? or is it lace? my friend insists that it is lace, that she has seen it in person and has photos of it and that it definately is lace, i say nay :p

It's embroidery. On the Princess Collection action figure, Hasbro uses lace for the coat, but it's not lace in real life.

ETA: The last three pictures here (http://www.padawansguide.com/leia_bespin_exhibit.shtml) show that it's definately embroidery.

I checked your recent progress, Maggie. Very well done :)

I'm toying with the idea of getting a nice computerized embroidery machine if I want to do this project. I would be useful for so many other costumes as well. ;)
But that's in the distant future. Gotta work on my C3 cotumes for now.

It's definitely not lace. I've seen it in person as well. Plus if it is lace, I've wasted the last 8 months! ;)
You can see the embroidery very clearly here.

I don't know that a computerized embroidery machine would really work on this project - since it's not really machine embroidery - the embroidery appears to be done with floss not thread. But hey - anything's possible I suppose!

One more chime in for "definitely not lace!"
I've spent a lot of time eyeballing this one in person, too, and it's all hand embroidered.

I thought I would post an update since I am coming down the home stretch on this one. I'm on the last "triangle" of the embroidery and I've currently got 3 1/2 of the big flowers at the bottom donw - and I've found those darn flowers to be the easiest, but most time consuming part of the embroidery. But I'm getting there!

I decided to put the yoke and collar together, so I'd have it ready to go when I got the embroidery done. So here are some pics. The collar lining is not sewn down on the inside yet and it's pretty long, so I can use it to cover up the seam of where I attach the embroidered part. I also need to tweak part of the collar that is sticking out and looking uneven in the back. But ignore that. :)

You're so close! It'll be all done before you know it!

(And if you're anything like me, you'll suddenly feel a little lost without embroidery to do every night. ;) )

Actually, I know what you mean, sg. I bring the embroidery to work and do it during lunch and it'll be strange to not have it anymore! Of course, I still have the picnic corset to do... :)
