What traditions need to be thrown out and what to replace them with?

This is not so much a forum of discussion as a forum where we can each express those traditions that don't do anything for us and what we want to do instead.

Tradition: The nuclear family: one house, one dad, one mom, kids (and maybe pets).
Possible Replacement: The multigenerational corporate family: several houses, several generations of adults, fiscal responsibility (and maybe kids).

Tradition: Santa Claus: A jolly legend expressing the idea that there are tangible rewards for being good; also a big fat lie!
Possible Replacement: Cameras everywhere: watch those kids at all times; truly know when they've been bad or good; still tell them about Santa Claus like you'd tell them about the cookie monster.

Sorry, this falls into the "What If..?" category, which was amusing when the Punisher killed the Marvel Universe but is sadly verboten here.
