Well, this is me trying my hand at doing some drawings after many years of never doing any for pleasure. I just felt inspired to do something. This is a friend's roleplaying character. She's very Mara Jade-ish in this picture (not intended). The B/W took me about 15 minutes laying down what was needed. I was torn on color so I scanned it and went ahead. The general consensus I got from another forum was they like it in the B/W with minimal color stage so I printed that sucker out on a nice printer and had it back.[face_dancing]

Medium was matte mylar and Prismacolor markers.:D

Okies, also a product of boredem but not a quickee.:D

That's my view of the scene in I, Jedi where he uses the energy of the explosion to project an image to the city. That is my interpretation of the ominous jedi he projects. Take the pic with a grain of salt... dang glare:mad:. It's my first attempt at anything larger than maybe a sheet of paper on paints I did last summer.

I had to dig that sucker out of my photobucket. So no more adding until I do anything more. Maybe I'll get bored again and return to drawing. They're drawing Nazi's this semester so they'd be happy I'm "practicing" outside of class.:p

Hello Hack (giggling over the username--I've often thought of myself this way, to tell the truth! ;) ), and a warm welcome to Fan Art! I always love the "I was bored..." leader in a thread title! LOL! We see a lot of great stuff in here from folks that "got bored!"

I like this piece a lot, both the linework and the colored version. I have to ask: what's "matte mylar?" I've never heard of it before (being mostly a graphite-and-paper sort of "hack" myself... ;) ). The light shading you've done with the markers is good, and could even be deepened a bit to provide a little more shape to her face. Very nice, though, as it is (and I'm actually pretty jealous that you could come up with the linework in only 15 minutes! I'm slower than a moving glacier with my own work, so those who can work as fast as this always impress/make me envious! :D ). You say you haven't drawn for pleasure for a long time--do you do professional art of some sort? We're glad you shared this with us, and hope you'll post some more when you can! Again, welcome!

Hack is my callsign from that same RP board where Ice recognizes me from (I'm the squad's Hacker). Nah, I'm not an artist. I'm an architecture student in college. I do a lot of drawings for my classes. Some drafting, some sketches, painting... you name it they make us do it whether we have skill in it or not. I really lost interest years ago because my school's classes were a joke.

Matte mylar is like plastic. It's about as thick as a transperency. I've seen the glossy stuff used as a diffuser in the prop saber forum.:D It eats pencil but is amazing for inks and markers because it will not bleed unless you just pool the ink in the first place. I use it all the time for floorplans and stuff because of the accuracy you can get.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I used double sided mylar so I used a grand total of seven colors on there.:D The hair is all one color I just used it on different sides to get the darker and lighter colors. I would have liked to get more depth. I would have loved an airbrush but I don't have one with me...:_|

Nice work, really open expression and beautiful features there, especially the lips. I really like the openness of the whole piece, kind of a no fuss, no muss approach that is quite refreshing. I'm a details girl so to see something so simple is beautiful! :D I totally agree with Falcon about the time in which you did this! If Deb is slower than a glacier for her work I must be a three-toed sloth (they like to bowl you know LOL Sorry terrible joke it never gets a laugh except from me)! I'd kill to be able to produce lines like this in a mere 15 minutes. Well done and hope you continue to show us more stuff. :)

And interesting medium there with the drawing surface, I've never even heard of mylar before. Sounds like fun to use, I like the idea of building up layers on either side to get tonal difference. Very intriguing! :D You learn something new every day it seems.

In my defense I just happened to be on the board and seen it at the top of the page. So there. :p

Hmmm, not much to say about the artwork, considering we've already talked about it. lol. You do well, but as I've said, I like paper and pencil. (I'm old-fashioned) :D

EDIT: Oh a new one! Very nice, I like your style. For some reason it reminds me of those Indian drawings you know... I don't know why, but I really like it. Just has a great feel to it.

You have a bad memory Ice.[face_shame_on_you] I posted that many moons ago on the DBW. That's why I had it in my photobucket account.

That must have been when I was in the middle of moving... Now that you say that I remember it, but only vaguely. :p

Okies, I guess this is another product of seeing something new and wanting to try it out. This is a total pain in the butt to get an accurate shot of what it looks like. It's etched plexi glass with wax pencil and ink inlays. It looks so cool in person because you can from an angle see the glean and layers of tone through the sanding. In this order I have a scan, picture and mix of the two. The mix is close but the detail of the etch work is lost.

I have another idea for using stuff you've never seen, but I don't have the time.:D

    Still "bored," eh? ;) :D

A very nice start on the Slave Leia! I've always loved that photo of Carrie and this is already a very good likeness--I think as you continue to fill this in it's just going to get better! The intensity of her expression is wonderful--you really captured it well. Can't wait to see this as it progresses!

Yes indeed, FalconFan. I like the second one best, it seems to have more depth in it I think. Very nice stuff, Hackster.
