Story
Preface

Everyone remembers exactly where they were when it started. What exactly it was, few really know. Some believe it?s some kind of biological weapon that the government lost control of; others believe that they just ran out of room in hell. Whichever way you look at it in that respect doesn?t really matter; what matters is how you manage to stay alive. It began in the early years of the twenty first century, sometime late in the first decade. For some reason, the dead just stopped staying dead.



December 31st 2009, New York City, NY
United States of America

It?s New Year?s Eve. Time square is filled completely with over five thousand people partying like it?s the last time they?ll get to party in this decade because it is. There?s a smile on the faces of everyone. The count down starts in five minutes.
Three men in black suits stand atop a building overlooking the massive congregation of the new decade. Staring down into it, they almost pity the poor souls of those who have no idea what?s coming to them, thousands of people that soon become hosts to their ambitious plot to make society mindlessly obedient and effortless to control.
?Are the carriers in place?? asked the one on the left.
?Yes, all three of them checked in a moment ago, Project Evolution is ready,? the one on the right replied, ?we?re ready when you are.? He motioned to the man in the center, who appeared to be their leader.
He paused for a moment, breathing in the foul air of New York City, the noxious fumes given off by exhaust pipes, garbage, and smoke just appalled him. ?Have the chopper ready, we don?t want to be here for this.?
?Chopper?s ready for take off.? The man on the left said.
?Good,? the leader said, ?initiate it when the countdown starts, by the time the clock strikes twelve, it should begin.?

It?s eleven-fifty three, you?re stuck in traffic. You got held up somewhere, so you didn?t make it to the party. The countdown starts in two and a half minutes, there?s no way you?ll make it there in time, looks like you?ll have to have a drink alone by yourself. It?s okay? you?re used to it. As you reach into the glove compartment for the emergency whiskey and shot glass that you always keep handy, you switch on the radio. Not surprised to hear that announcer from MTV that you hate so much hosting the show.
The clock hits eleven fifty-nine and you hear a low flying helicopter fly overhead. You pour yourself a glass of whiskey and get ready to celebrate the New Year? alone.
The countdown starts: ten? nine? eight? You think about what you?ve done with your life so far and what you can do in the coming decade to make it better. You ponder your New Year?s resolution, will you give up drinking? Doubtful? but that?s alright, you?ve got a laundry list of other vices you can give up. Three? two? one.
Welcome to the new decade. That stupid announcer starts screaming obnoxiously, but you block it out as you down your shot of whisky. You ask yourself why nothing feels new at all. Why it?s all just the same thing it was a second ago. You can?t answer the why but you can take a crack at the how, but before you manage to dive into your philosophical trance, you notice how loudly the announcer on the radio is screaming, and that he won?t stop.
Something tells you not to turn the radio off, so you listen to it. Suddenly those screams are accompanied by inhuman noises and strange groans. You hear the screams get louder and notice that there?s not just one person screaming. ?Oh my God!!!? shouts one person, ?my liver!!! It?s eating my liver!!!?
You spit out that last bit of liquor you downed and it goes all over the inside of the windshield. You reach for the gun you keep in your glove compartment, hop out of your piece of crap truck and start heading for time square. People you care about are there, ?partying? you?re not about to let the few people you?ve got left fall victim to whatever the hell is going on there.

Starter Guide
Character Establishment

You?ll start out as an average human being. Keep in mind that you?re no one special. There will be no super-humans players in this RPG, at least not at the very beginning. The ?You? referred to above is obviously not the one you will be playing as, however you do have to find yourself in similar circumstances in terms of the ?celebration.?
Either your character can be someone who just isn?t a partier and didn?t want to go, couldn?t make it for whatever reason. In any case, you yourself cannot be there when the you-know-what hits the fan because if you are, you become a zombie.

Plausibility

This is to be kept strictly realistic. Obviously, you are not a Jedi or a ninja. Do not make your character a martial artist. That is way too much of a gimmick. If your character has a certain skill that is uncommon in anyway (example: hotwiring/repairing a car, good with a gun) you must at least make an attempt to explain where you learned it.
For instance if you can hotwire a car, you can briefly explain that by saying something like ?I grew up in a bad neighborhood.? That would be perfectly fine, however if you try to explain that your character is a good marksman because he/she is a war veteran but is seventeen years old, that?s just not plausible.
Keep things like this simple, you were a cub-scout, a volunteer at a hospital, a member of a gang. Use things that would make you proficient in a certain field but not an expert.
This is all just to keep you in a state of being able to truly relate to your character, unless you can actually do any of those things like surviving a thirty story fall, taking on a bear in melee combat or something else ridiculous like that. Basically it?s all common sense. This isn?t Star Wars, The Matrix, or Harry Potter. This is the real world? with zombies.
Another thing on plausibility is that if you are confronted by a horde of zombies that is literally a million strong, run. You are not Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando or Stallone in Rambo. Also if you find yourself in a position where you have a firearm of any kind, I have one word for you: ammunition.

Weapons

When you acquire the weapon, specify how many rounds it has, and keep it within reason. You won?t be finding a rocket propelled gun, or a chain gun or anything like that. Privately message me before with a request to for a weapon, but keep in mind that I won?t be doling out firearms to everyone. The majority of the civilians will be armed with baseball bats, crowbars, monkey wrenches, or other blunt weapons that have a half-way decent range.
You won?t be given a lot of ammo, if you find something like a shot gun, it will have something like twelve rounds at most, and when its empty, you?d do best to discard or use it to beat zombies down with. Every post for someone who is carrying a gun should look like this:

The Story

The story will broken down into parts which will broken down into chapters. Every time a major event occurs, there will be a new chapter to accompany it. Something like that would be if all of the sudden a huge mob of zombies appears and you and your group needs to escape them, a new Chapter will begin in light of that event. The parts however will be far more gradual.
Each part will be punctuated by periods of time that will follow this pattern: part two will take place one year after part one, part three will take place two years after part two, and part four will take place three years after part three, assuming we get that far.
As you probably noticed from the above story section, this will not be your average zombie laden story where the premise is simply: ?there?s some zombies? don?t die.? There plot will twist and turn several times throughout the story. If this didn?t happen, I?m sure you?d get incredibly bored incredibly quickly. One more thing,

Name: Dale Kerrigan
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Nationality: Irish-American
Special Skill: Leadership
Appearance: About Two meters tall (roughly 6'2) Has slightly long hair, a goatee, and hazel eyes. Wears a dirty leather jacker over a brown hooded sweat shirt, and jeans. Rarely makes facial expressions that give away his emotions.
Personality: Indifferent yet insightful. Doesn't speak often but makes it count when he does. People tend to listen to him.
Occupation: Bartender.
Opinion: Doesn't care.
Bio: Dale has been a bartender for years. He's no psychiatrist, but does do a great deal of listening to people's problems from the other end of the bar and has developed a talent for coming up with clever solutions for them. Dale is much like the character in the preface, except he's not a zombie. Despite knowing what it can do to you very well, he has a bit of a drinking problem.
The few friends he has, or had, say that he always seemed detached from the situation he's in, off somewhere in his mind coming up with a way to get out of the dead end life he's been leading. Soon enough, his new life (in the form of a zombie apocalypse) finds him.

Special Skill: A great marksman, skilled at sniping as well as picking locks. He earned his sniping skills from playing video games, mostly games like Halo and Hitman that allowed him to practice sniping as often as he liked.
Appearance: Daniel
Personality: Cautious, patient, serious, short-tempered, polite and formal
Occupation: Daniel is a lawyer. He used to be a part of a large firm until he decided to quit and form his own after he discovered his ex-fiancee with his ex-boss.
Opinion: The government lost control of an experiment and now instead of fixing the problem is going to wipe everyone out, zombie or not.
Bio: As a child Daniel longed to get away from the lifestyle his father dreamed for him. Richard Keyes wanted his son to be a major football star that would move on to play in the NFL and be the greatest quarterback in the history of NFL quarterbacks. Though Daniel was very athletic in school, he didn't want that. In fact he wanted to be a lawyer who put the criminals in jail. His father would have none of that. After graduating from high-school, and crushing his father's dreams of going on to play College Football at USC, Daniel went to study law at Harvard. He studied for eight years, earning his Masters. He went from law firm to law firm until he found work with an old friend of his fathers named Michael Cane. He worked with Crane for a year, in that time becoming engaged to his high school sweetheart. The wedding was called off however, when Daniel discovered his fiancee with Crane. In anger Daniel quit, and is now currently trying to build his own firm.

Personality: A little on the wierd side, he's very protective of his friends and family however, he is also into mysticism.

Opinion on what?s causing the outbreak: Some otherworldly power, maybe even the 4 horsemen.
Bio: Born in a small town near the US, Canadian border
he was one of the first to guess what was going to happen when the zombie apocolypse happened. He now uses his own abilities to try and protect his friends and family against the endless waves of the undead, and any force that may control them.

Bio: Max was young when he discovered art. He always struggled to be the best. Often put down by his peers with less talent he struggled to prove himself. However his hard work payed off after being accepted to SVA in New York. He studies animation and has an intership with an American anime called Project Evolution: Fall of Man.

On new years he spent the night doing some work in his studio with the radio tuned in. He stayed bored until he heard a man screaming, "MY LIVER < OH GOD" he struck an interest. Opening his window to look down the street at time square to see a hord, of ZOMBIES.

Appearance: Arkady is a tall lanky girl her brown hair hangs down to her shoulders and her green eyes are very bright against her pale skin.
Personality: Arkady is a young girl, only 24 a mere two years out of college. She tries to be determined but her rather timid nature stops her unlocking her true talent.
Occupation: Businesswoman, she is an assistant "Reformer", traveling the country with the senior "Reformer" going to factories, plants and others to help them get back on track.
Opinion on what?s causing the outbreak: A government mistake or something, doesn't care until she gets out.
Bio: Arkady was born into a middle class family in new york, going to school the beautiful girl would have been very popular but due to her timid nature she always had only a few, but loyal friends.

Graduating High School she went to a State school she majored in business her professor impressed by her Organizing skills and his hope for her to become a good leader he introduced her to a CEO friend of his. She soon had a job traveling the country with her senior partner and is currently in new york working on a deal.

 

Great CSs so far but I am in need of more military characters. If anyone wants to double up and have two, that is allowed. I think it'd be interesting to have a character on both sides of the spectrum but that's just me, anyhow, this is my military character.

Appearance: Wears Marine Fatigues, has blue eyes, white hair, and wrinkled features.
Personality: Strict and battle hardened, has a commanding presence.
Opinion: None, just knows that his mission is to rescue the survivors.
Bio: Jim is no hero, he's a highly decorated soldier, but no hero. He's seen some terrible things in his time butnothing could have prepared him for this. He served in desert storm in the 90s, Operation Iraqi freedom from 2001-2008, and was just ecently pulled from service in the current war in South Korea (2009). What he will see and experience today will go far beond anything he has ever seen on a battle field. Perhaps today he will finally earn all of those medals he not-so-proudly wears.

Bio: James grew up in the small town of Elwood, IL. James accelerated as a student early on in life. By he was only 16 when he graduated from high school. After his younger brother died due to cancer he decided to become a doctor?so in his own way he could stop others loved ones from dieing too young as his brother had. He studied medicine at the University of Chicago?and finished 3rd in his graduating class. It was there he had met his wife, Mary, who was a nurse at the University of Chicago hospital. After dating for 3 years he and Mary got married 3 years later the same year he graduated. Unfortunately 4 years after that Mary was diagnosed with a inoperable brain tumor. As she lay dieing before James slowly and painfully ?in a situation too similar to how his brother John had died, James decided he wanted to end his suffering and torment of watching his own wife die in this horrible way by smothering her with a pillow while she was asleep. Though James got away with his crimes with the authorities?he couldn?t hide from his sins in his dreams. Deciding to end his life in order to run away from them?he drove to the place he and Mary had spent their honeymoon at intending to end his life where he was most at peace. However before he could make it there?the zombies emerged. When a zombie attacked him, James quickly killed it and with that?shattered the resolve he had made just days ago to end his life. Now James is like any other survivor?he?s just running so he can live another day.

Because of his background in physicality in stressful situations, he?s fairly calm in serious situations, and has extensive knowledge of takedowns. He passed the Military-grade driving exam with an A*, but failed in most other subjects like shooting, some think on purpose. Mark loves to drive, and so he offered to use his Humvee to New York with the military to contain the outbreak.

Bio: Kelly grow in L.A to a lower middle class family of six. She grew up with one older brother and two sisters, one younger and one older?who always surpassed her in everything. Her brother when to a highly respected school and opened a successful bossiness at age 26?witch is only getting stronger each day, her older sister Amanda became a respected social worker and her younger sister became engineer at Ford. While Kelly flunked out of college and became a clerk at a local grocery store while she finished her degree at a community college. While America was still fighting Iraq, she joined up on the pretense of ?defending her nation? when in fact she joined to finally gain respect of her parents and beat her fellow siblings for once. She showed amazing aptitude in boot camp for military life and was assigned to the Special Forces. After tour of duty in Iraq she was promoted and was sent to Korea for a tour there. She had just been allowed a 3 month leave for her duty in Korea when the zombies appeared. Now she?s in for a completely new type of war.

Bio: Vincent had always longed to be a soldier. His grandfather had fought in World War II and was proud of his grandson's desire to join the force. He taught him everything he could about the military. Vincent grew up a strong man, and graduated from High School with honors. Instead of going to college he went on to accomplish his dream and join the United States Army. He served since the age of twenty. He proved his loyalty to his country and trained hard, improving himself every single day.
