There is something fun about watching people destroy their lives and reputation via social media. Or at the least expose their ignorance.

Looking forward to the backlash from the new Annie movie.

 

Looks like they've made some pretty bold narrative choices. I almost certainly won't be watching, but Jamie Foxx is a decent man and I think the intentions here are good. I don't expect a smash hit, but hopefully it does respectably.

In the meantime, can we repurpose this thread to a Senate discussion of the role of shame and guilt, perhaps as exemplified by that rant from Dzokhar Tsarnaev's uncle just after the Boston bombing?

Black Annie is like Anakin being called Ani -- shouldn't be done!

 

Filmmakers of a lot of these movies don't seem to care about having a distinctive production design anymore. That looked like it could have been anything. It's always a bad sign when a movie trailer references Facebook. I wish Rose Byrne would go back to Australia and make better movies again, like The Goddess of 67 and Two Hands.

 

Why? Why does it make a difference what race she is?

Because Little Orphan Annie is a white girl with red hair (and no eyes)!

(side note: I, uh, actually didn't think this trailer looked terrible and kinda liked the musical numbers...)

 

I think the film will be terrible and I will not watch it. But that has nothing to do with the cast (I learned my lesson of watching stage musicals on screen from the horror that was Les Misrables!)
And why no eyes?

In fairness I think most people will refuse to see this movie because it looks god awful.

 

Ok, I loved Annie. Not cause the race of the characters. The original one done in the early eighties was great. It was apart of my childhood. Didn't matter what race she was or who daddy warbucks was. It was about the story and its the story of a guy trying to become mayor that is wrong. It defiles the whole concept.. Daddy Warbucks didn't want Annie to make him look good for mayor. He wanted orphans at a Christmas party. This is a rape of my childhood. Sorry Jaime but you made a bad call.
