    SR,
I used to live in Greenwich Village, Bayside, Flushing & Woodhaven (not at the same time, of course). Did you get a chance to check out any of those places?

Did you get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art? the Natural History Museum? The Cloisters? the Guggenheim? Times Square? A Broadway (of off Broadway) play? Central Park? I hope I can access your pics. (I haven't been able to get a lot -- and no faces either.)

    Welcome home!

I went to Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Times Square, Central Park, and The Museum of Natural History. I didn't see any shows because there wasn't anything I wanted to see and I didn't want to spend the money.

I'm not in any of my photos because I didn't want to ruin the landscape with my face.

I lived there for a while myself, at 90th and Lex. Was in town when John Lennon was killed. Before the days of cell phones, and still everybody around knew almost immediately.

Saw Linda Rondstadt and Kevin Kline do Pirates of Penzance in Central Park. Sat behind Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas. And no, they hadn't stood for hours in line for their tickets, like we had :). I haunted Broadway in those days, saw so many plays and musicals. Man, I miss that.

Went many times to the WTC, to Windows on the World. I still have a matchbox somewhere.

Met "Suzy Chapstick" on her roller skates (yeah, you had to be there, folks ) as I was chatting with Bess Myerson, who was running for the Senate. Met Mayor Koch at the same time.

    Good times, good times LOL.

I guess I should go visit sometime. I've contemplating about visiting, but since NY seems to "happening" I think I'll try go sometime in the near future. I think I have cousins in NY from my grandpa's side of the family(Puerto Rican).

I'll be in NYC in late September. I will be in Chicago next week, but I will be fairly busy with work.

I went there in high school, on a theater trip. We saw five shows on Broadway and ran around being crazy. It was a lot of fun, but I could never, ever live there-- it's way too big!

I did live there and I agree with you 100%. Too much stress! All the bad things about L.A. squared! L.A. is dirty -- NYC actually has garbage in the trees!

A trip on the subway may be dangerous, but is a must!

Went to NY once for 10 days.

Didn't care for the City (and the smell) at all.

Though I will go back once the memorial is finished in 2010.

It doesn't smell everywhere. And I didn't check every tree, but I really didn't notice trash in them.

Someone just sent me this email with a "Thought for the Day", I thought it was funny so I'll share.

    Some people are like Slinkies
They don't really have a purpose
But they still bring a smile to your face
When you push them down the stairs.

NYC was so *cool*. Always somewhere to go! Always something to do. LOTS of somethings. It was filthy, but trash was only on the curbs, I didn't see any in the trees, and it was on the curbs 'cause that's how they do it there (weirdos), no trash cans, just put your bags on the sidewalk! I'm hoping to go back next June.

EDIT--oh yeah, and I rode the subway TONS of times...over 15, at least. There were a couple "iffy" people, but I/we just walked away. Cake. The hardest part was changing subway cars o_O (you have to be on one of the first five if you're going to South Ferry).

When I was there, they had trash cans. Some New Yorker's are just too lazy to use them. (No joke, I saw a 'candid camera' type of thing on TV one time. This stylish, well-groomed woman in her 60's or 70's took a tissue out of her purse, blew her nose, and threw the tissue on the sidewalk. The Trash Receptacle was about 2 feet away.) There's not garbage in all the trees, but I definitely saw some (paper & plastic scraps), like it had blown up there & nobody bothered to remove it. Garbage bags put out for collection are supposed to be a certain weight, tied up securely (so icky stuff doesn't come pouring out) etc. etc.

I once sat next to a group of "juvenile delinquents" on the subway because the other people looked even scarier. (I asked if I could sit with them and kind of gestured the reasons why. They were very chivalrous & watched out for me for the whole ride home.)It depends on when you are riding and where you are going. But, you should stay on your guard.

Now I mean the following in the nicest way:
WATCH OUT FOR CHANGING CARS WHILE THE TRAIN IS MOVING! PEOPLE HAVE ACTUALLY LOST FEET THAT WAY! BE VERY, VERY VERY CAREFUL! Of course, I did it all the time. But, I was what you call...an expert. (Catch the Mythbusters reference?)

    K-Fed: Masterpiece Theater

Don't understand what Kevin Federline is saying? Keeping with tradition, we here at The Cooler are going to break down 'Lose Control' in the style of 'Masterpiece Theater,' since Kevin only deserves the finest in life. Here's some choice 'Control' lyrics that we've transcoded into proper English:

-- "Valet your whip, grab your chick, you know how it goes."

Please allow our staff to park your vehicle, and be sure to bring your female partner with you, as you are surely informed as to how things proceed.

-- "Step up in the club so fresh and clean/Never been the outcast they label me"

When Kevin Federline fancies a jaunt to the disco, you can guarantee he is showered and has applied antipersperant/Look, Britney, I made a play on words with the OutKast song, 'So Fresh, So Clean'

-- "Let me take you back to 5 o'clock when I drove the Lamborghini off the block/but not before I made them chop the top and throw some twenty twos on them socks"

Earlier this evening, at five hours past noon, I drove my finely-crafted Italian sportscar away from my domicile. However, before said journey, I made it imperative that the automotive specialists customized my vehicle to be a convertible, and also apply rims measuring 22-inches in diameter.

-- "A lifestyle of rich living and fast cars/Don't hate cause I'm a superstar"

My daily life includes activities mostly known to the wealthy percentage of the population, and I would most appreciate it if you did not garner any ill will toward me simply because my wife gave me said money.

-- "Never been to Denver, but I rock them nuggets/One earring costs more than your budget"

Unfortunately, Kevin Federline has never taken a holiday in the fine capital of Colorado, yet he still wears oversized diamond earrings (genius wordplay # 2)/ One of my accessories inserted through my earlobe was appraised and is said to exceed your annual spending.

-- "I ain't here to brag, i'm just here to pop tags"

Please understand, Kevin Federline is not one to show conceit or boast, he's simply performing in order to earn more wages, which will in turn fund his penchant for buying new clothing.

-- "Look man, I'm in a whole 'nother tax bracket/It don't matter what you blow, boy, you can't match it"

Observe, good sir, as Kevin Federline's W2 for the year of 2005 was filed to the IRS and he benefitted from George W. Bush's tax cuts for the extremely wealthy/ No matter what female pop singer you marry, you shall never accrue the wealth that Kevin Federline has from his nuptials to Britney Spears.

-- "I take care of my own, that's my family/Magazines talk s--- cause they don't understand me"

Kevin Federline's hip-hop friends are well compensated, yet his litter of children may or may not also receive the same benefits/ Publications often run disparaging remarks regarding Kevin Federline's posture, musical abilities, sexual potency and so forth, but fret not ... they simply do not grasp the true inner beauty that is Kevin Federline.

I actually like NYC. It's pretty cool, though very dirty. I never had any problems with the subways because as long as you don't look away like you are scared you are okay.

My puppies were fixed on Monday so no chances of Corgles or Beagis. They are so cute. My padawan and I slept on the kitchen floor on Tuesday night to make sure they were okay. We'll do the same this weekend, plus they are fun to haave around.

DH, what type of dogs do you have? It sounds like a corgi and a beagle. I've got a Chorgi... any guesses on the mix? Another way to say it could be corwawa (spelling!) Quite the cute combo. You guys really slept on the floor with yours? It's nice to hear of somebody else that loves their dogs that much!
