So i was watching my episode I dvd and i cant help but notice that in the trailors, queen amidalas voice sounds different from the movie. her voice in the TPM is soo deep while in the trailors it so light and childish. Why is that?

They edited in the movie to distinguish her from Padmé. I recall That Prequel Movie, "Even though I am a 14 year old girl, I have the voice of a 40 year old male smoker."

When speaking in public and infront of others, she uses a more formal and "deeper" voice. It is only proper for a queen, so to say.

I could have sworn I answered a thread like this earlier today...

If you're 14 and have a voice like a feather, no one's going to listen to a damn thing you say. Deeper voices cause more of a reaction, psychologically, and we assume that they're older, and hence more learned.

Plus, it's easy to fake with the handmaidens. Take it from a smoker- after a while, we all tend to sound the same; deep and scratchy. It's easy to imitate if you lower your voice- I can fake my brother's voice, and he's half a foot and 75 pounds heavier than I am. Deepening the pitch of your voice takes away individual vocal personalities, and people can sound more like one another.

I was always under the assumption that it was Keira Knightley playing the Queen Amidala Decoy with the Deeper Voice, because...well, she has a deeper voice. And it doesn't really look like Natalie all the time. A lot of time she resembles Knightley more thant Portman.

Why did she get a british accent though? Leia had the same thing in ANH.

If it's Keira, that's her native accent. If it's Natalie... well, deepen your voice and start talking. That happens to a lot of people, myself included. It's just the pressure from forcing muscles to work ways they normally don't.

Ok...i just assumed that the only time Kiera [Sabe] played the queen was when she was in the black outfit w/ the feathers....all the other costumes and times, it was natalie portman. rite?

Don't think so. I'm pretty sure now that it is Keira for most all of the speaking Amidala scenes. Natalie on all Padme and post Revelation. She wasn't recognizable back then because she wasn't a household name but she is now and the more familiar you are with Knightley's voice/acting, you can definately tell it's her. Which is sad, because she should have gotten a higher billing for the large amount of work in the film, but I suppose that would have given away the secret.

hmmm...are u sure? cuz on the special features thing it shows natlie portman in the costumes and she is being interviewed in the senate gown. and it was definitly her in the thrown room gown in the beginning cuz she's on the cover of the box!

i really think the only time we see keira is in the black feather outfit and at the end in the warrior outfit.

Ben Burtt & George Lucas altered the pitch of Natalie's voice just before the film's release.George had decided that he wanted the Queen to have a deeper, more authoratative tone than Natalie's performance had given it.She sound's better in the trailer's if you ask me!
