Back in 2004 there was a change made to the Tractor Beam that Obi Wan shuts off to provide the gang with a chance to escape the Death Star. Originally it had English writing on it, which was modified to Aurebesh for the DVD release.

So this only leaves two more instances in ANH that features Earth-based letters/ numbers:
The docking back 94 wall mural next to the archway entrance and the distance counter on the X-Wing tactical computers.

The latter is why I opened this thread.

People rarely ever talk about this beautifully designed font, which still holds up. It's timeless and fits the bill of a retro-future perfectly. It's probably my favourite number-based font out there. Does anyone know what it is called or if fans have recreated this font for download?

Mmm...looks sort of like Roboto (Google's chosen font) to me:

Hmmm... I will give that one a try.

Someone just sent me a link, pointing out that the font was most likely designed my Dan O'Bannon, who is responsible for all those wonderful early CGI vector animations seen in the 70's and 80's, including Alien and Blade Runner.

I believe Lucas merely wanted to remove engish characters from the movies (numbers not applying).

Yes, English characters were done away with, but the numbers that survived in ANH have also been used in combination with Aurebesh in the "binocular views" in TCW.

Been trying in vain to find a screenshot, but I'm 99% certain I saw that font in the original short film of THX-1138 on some sort of display or counter.

Oh my god! I had never noticed the huge 94 on the docking bay in Star Wars!

No problem. I am also a fan of both the fonts of SW (the Y-Wing pilot helmets in ROTJ have really cool writing on them) and retro-future stuff, so I'm happy to help.
