Beru Whitesun. Lord knows why I actually remember that among a hundred different little tidbits, but I do. :)

Yeah, I think Playboy would be a little iffy. We're not even allowed unfiltered internet.

I really can't hold with filtering the internet. Censorship defeats the purpose of libraries, in my opinion.

Librarians didn't decide to do that -- it came from above, with threats of losing funidng. The ALA is dead set against it. I wasn't here for the whole initial controversy, so I can't explain it fully, but as I understand it, it wasn't exactly put to a vote.

A small amount of censorship is obviously needed, but my school has definately gone too far. A couple of concerned mothers didn't want their kids going on rotten.com or Newgrounds...stuff like that. So, instead of using a Firewall that can block those sites, most of the time you can't even get into Encarta or ask.com.

May I ask what you are filtering?

Mostly, like, full-frontal nudity, explicit porn, etc. I haven't heard reports of it blocking people's searches for info on breast cancer, at least unless it's a total malfunction.

At the middle school, we had an excellent Firewall of some sorts. I forget the name, but it filtered all that "bad" stuff, but still left a lot of leeway.

There's a way around all of those filters and it doesn't require any type of disabling of the filter. Just a bit of knowledge of the binary language and how to add =]

Some school systems have extremely tight filters. I couldn't research Dr. Freud for a project! :(

I know the big reason I don't go to the town library is because they have pretty bad hours. They close at 6 weekdays and 8 or 9 on weekends.

yeah, I don't go to town libraries because of their hours as well. The Worcester library is awesome though. They have an ever expanding DVD selection to choose from.

hey, I'm Night4554 and i'm wondering if i can randomly hang around your boards, even though I don't live anywhere near boston!

Although last year i did go up there for a class trip, nice city.

How far from Boston are you? I mean, if you went there on a class trip, it can't be too far.

The NHS kiddies from my school go to Florida on a "school trip," once a year. It doesn't matter anyways, since (I assume), we like it when people post here. ;)

(Due to concerns over death and destruction in the skies, this year's trip has been moved to Montreal, where anyone old enough to say 'I'm 18' can drink until they can't tell the difference between Hendrix and Mozart)
