I'm sitting here, watching the 90 minute rendition of Dueling Campaign ads (ugh), and I (with a couple lagers* in me :p ) was just wondering if they're showing them in Australia. if so, how are they presenting them? Are they just feeds from U.S. affiliates or are they indepedantly covering them? Et cetera, et cetera, etc.

    * Note, the lager's actually a good one, even if it is American. :p

As far as I know, the only details we get about the american elections are within the news, so the answer is no. We've got our own elections coming up here in Australia as it is.

I'm sorry, there's just something about your initial post that really goes against the TOS.

Note, the lager's actually a good one, even if it is American.

You know you can't knowingly post false information don't you? ;)

Question: Are you getting news out our election?

Unfortunately, no. American voters don't give a **** unless it directly involves them it seems.

Now I, being a student of international politics and an honourary Aussie, would be interested in seeing something.

You know you can't knowingly post false information don't you?

Hey, I've been abroad, I know what real beer tastes like (having weened myself on German beer), and this local stuff, Yuengling, is pretty damn good.

And there's a micro-brew from (New) Jersey I'll have to get again when I'm in Philadelhia in November. Fying Fish is a good brew.

So I did not violate the TOS. :p

EDIT: Spelling. Hmmm, the 6-pack seems to still be in effect. :p

I've seen news of the American election on Sky News Active. They covered the DMC (showed the celebrities and Kerry on stage etc), but that's all I've seen of the Democrats. We often see snapshots of Bush's speeches and the Republicans supporting him (the Governator got some screen time).

They've also shown a lead up to the British election.

I watched the entire debate on Fox News. I've been following the US election coverage as well as the Australian one.

Now why doesn't that surprise me? Most Americans wouldn't know where Australia is.

    Near Germany? Near North Korea?

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt it. We are pretty...well, I won't say more, lest someone accuse me of hating America.

Hell, I just learned about 2 years ago that Australia covered about the same area as the Continental US, and I'm fairly knowledgeable. :p

Only because I told you, and the word you can use to look erudite is "contiguous"...

    con·tig·u·ous
    adj.
    1. Sharing an edge or boundary; touching.
    2. Neighboring; adjacent.
3a. Connecting without a break: the 48 contiguous states. [/i]
3b. Connected in time; uninterrupted: served two contiguous terms in office.

    ;)

I love that stereotype that the Michael Moore sycophant crew gets that says Americans are so stupid, they couldn't find Australia. They could find it, they just have little reason to care much about us. In fact, I have a French workmate who says most Europeans couldn't find it either if you asked them, though admittedly Europe is very trendy so we shan't castigate them any further, lest we appear unpopular.

It's hard to come to terms with the fact we're a spectacularly insecure nation, internationally, and that we constantly seek to define ourselves in an international context. That we travel so much and are generally very culturally aware isn't a worldwide rule, it's an exception and it's brought about by something our Colonial Masters in the UK suffer; geopolitical isolation. We don't feel part of Asia, no matter how hard Sir Paul tried, and we're hardly big or important enough to get a mention with the G8 types, so we become internationalist. If other nations don't do this, it's not ignorance; it's localised nationalism. It's the biproduct of having a history that's usually centuries old, not a mere 200-and-something years...

    //end spiel.

Vader, it's that funny shaped country that's on the bottom of the world. Like in this picture below.

    [image=http://www.flourish.org/upsidedownmap/mcarthur-large.jpg]

America is near the bottom left hand corner.

The funny thing is that their maps are upside-down.

Oh please, you're the ones who are upside down, not us. All the great people walk the way I do.

    Here's a short list:

    Lance Armstrong
    Cal Ripken Jr.
    The Queen
    Don Johnson
That crazy hobo down the street with a sign saying "The End is neigh" who looks like Jesus
The Yellow M&M (Not the Red one)
    Tom Hanks
Homer Simpson (though he did briefly walk the wrong way)
and the Noid (Avoid the Noid)

Score one for the Northern Hemisphere!

    Woooo!

    :p

    Bazz Lerman (sp?)
    Olivia Newton John

Seems all the talented people are down here.

George Lucas also raped the Original Trilogy - twice, no less - so I hardly think that's a point in our favour...

I'm just happy I have my Original versions of the OT, with no Hayden (Die you piece of wood!), Gungans, bad Emperor dialogue in ESB, Jabba the Hutt scenes, "pretty" Mos Eisley shots, and the godawful RotJ musical scene.

    We do however roxxXXxx0rz j00 Jifty! [face_flag]
