    Is there any set length for fanfics, or can it be as long as the author desires it to be?

    No set length. Some go into hundreds, thousands even, and then there are the 5-pagers--short but sweet. Whatever pleases you.

    When all was said and done, Dark Mirror (a recent fic of mine) might have been close to five hundred if it were to be printed in a paperback. On the other hand, A Day in the Life of Emperor Palpatine (another fic of mine) was barely three.

    Write whatever story for as long as you wish it to be. Some of the best fan fic's I've read it's one posters. ;)
