After they had decided to stow aboard seperate ships to get down to Naboo, Obi-Wan says:

"You were right about one thing Master. The negotiations were short..."

This seems to be a very un-appropriate thing to say at that point in time. All their comrades aboard the Republic ship had just been slaughtered, and they were fighting not only for their own lives, but for the lives of the people on Naboo. Does this seem like a good time to be cracking jokes?

I guess the only things that I can think of is that Qui-Gon was too busy trying to work out some sort of plan for the coming confrontation. Or that he let is slide, because it would be natural for the Padawan to not have as much control over his emotions, hence his happiness to simply be alive?

    What do YOU think?

May the Force be with you all,

Some people joke in times of stress.

By this time Obi-Wan and Qui-gon had been together for several years as master and apprentice and Qui-gon would certainly understand this particular quirk of his young charge.
