For all of you who have made fanfilms to date, who used an original planet in their film? By that I mean a planet that was not taken off of Sci-fi 3d or some other site. One that you painted the texture map for yourself.

    Just curious.

I created 2 planets for my Episode III Trailer. Both rendered in Bryce with atmosphere haze in AE.
One texture was a bitmap of a Hoth-like ice planet that I built in Photoshop. The other is a simple Bryce pattern map.

I think both looked equally convincing. It's really a matter of what works best.

I did one. (although no Star Wars fanfilm...) but I painted the ring of a planet on a bit thicker paper, then I painted it woody and seay and on one side, it slowly became darker... then I cut it out and glued it on a star background, made of black paper and white dots...
