    I could never work out who was Jedi Master Sypho Dias? And why did he organise the making of a Clone Army?

    I haven't read any of the books, so someone else may know better, but I believe Sifo-dyas was a Jedi master. Count Dooku told him about the coming crisis/war with the sith and convinced him to order the army to help defend the Republic. Dooku then killed him.

    Sifo Dyas did exist as a member of the council. He was killed either by Dooku or Sidious. Then the killer pretended to be him while contacting the Cloners of Kamino. They then ordered the clones.

    That is how I've always seen it, though it is possible that Dooku convinced him to order the clones.

    Labyrinth of Evil by James Luceno adds some light to the mystery, though I can' remember the exact details.
