I'm wondering what it feels like being a Pole on Svalbard.

And hunting and outdoor activities are popular in Sweden too.

Do Europeans make fun of poles? We do here, though it is usually not considered very polite. We also make fun of blondes as being a little on the slow side. Though it is only blonde girls, as a toeheaded guy I never ribbed. (Unless it was behind my back ;))

I figured Outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and etc. would be popular in Sweden too. Though it seems like there are more naturally occuring spots for Nordmenn to do those. Though I did see some Mountain Huts in Dalarna(?) that look great!

How much to bicycles cost to rent in Sweden/Norway? How much to they cost to buy?

Bikes cost from 1500 to 50000 kroner. It's probably going to cost a few hundred kroner, depending on how long you plan to rent the bike.

I can't believe that I did not respond...

Sorry about that, thanks for the info!

BTW I saw that the Norwegian Kroner is now 7.3 per USD. It used to be 10 per dollar.

All you vikings should come over and take advantage of the deal ;)

Even the Euro now is worth more than the dollar!

I should have bought some Euros back when it was .83 on the dollar.

If you are interested in a bike without paying to much you migth get lucky and buy something used... Renting one is a good idea, but I think there are rentalbikes only in the major cities. (of course, I cold be wrong here...)

Yes, there are rules about knifes, but I am not shure about the length. In my school, whe have to carry knifes becouse we use them as tools, and some of then are definentley longer than 7cm. Norway have many rules about many things, but they are probabley not as strickt as in the US.

When you are coming to Norway, are you arriving by air or water? And where? It would bee cool to see you!

I will be flying over. My tentative schedule:

    Day 1-2 Orlando to Iceland
    Day 3-4 Copenhavn
Day 5-9 Stockholm, Malmo Goteborg, Narvik
    Day 10 Tromso
    Day 11-12 (Svalbard? or Trondheim)
    Day 14-15 Bergen
    Day 16 Stavanger
    Day 17 Oslo
    Day 18 back to Amerika

This maybe very optimistic. It may be more like 10 days or 12 days if so I will drop Denmark and some of the Northern Norwegian cities. If you live in one of the cities, like I said earlier, and want to get a Norsk oel and pizza or something let me know.

I will hammer out the details later. Right now I am at one of Florida's beautiful beaches. The water is a wonderful 29 degrees centigrade.

It is good that you can travel so much and so long, you better be a millionaire. Take a trip inland, if you are in Trondheim, so we can talk. We can take a little Viking fetish

That's a good translation, Lade us a place in Trondheim. 'Viking fetisj' is if a man is [something something (my guess... fasination)] on vikings. Many are, especially tourists and foreign exchange students, but also Norwegians when they are i [something]

Min Norsk ordbok er at meg huset.

    Hvordan uttale tilgjengelig?

I used to say "Til-yen-lee" but I think it might be "Til-yen-geh-lee" or are both incorrect ;)

How is everyone doing? I heard you guys already had some snow (in the northern parts). Break out the skis!

Oh and I got readers digest in Norwegian delivered to my house. A great way to pick up vocabulary in a very convenient way!

I know I said earlier that I was visiting during the summer but now I am looking into possibly attending a semester in Norway after I get a degree in a couple of years.

For college students, where do you go,and would you recommend a foreign student study there (especially if the US job market isn't the best, might as well ride it out in college ;))
