I don?t really care all that much what happens at other boards. If someone brings something to my attention, yes, I?ll act upon it if I think that it?s relevant. But other peoples boards are their own affair.

Until you start telling the mod squad about what's happening in those boards. Even when you agreed to a constitution saying you wouldn't. [face_plain]

The relevant section of the constitution of the board in question:

    The Members
Members at the [board in question] are to be made by invitation only. Invitations may only be made by the Admins, and only if all three original Admins agree. Current members are not to invite new members, though they may make recomendations to the Admins, who will happily listen to any recomendation and consider it. All members will be chosen on their quality of character and positivre contributions to The JC.

If in the event a new member comes to the boards without Admin invitation, he or she may stay, but they will be closely watched and held to the standards of Our Constitution strictly.

Members are expected to contribute to threads other than their own, expanding on the discussion topic. All members are asked to discuss controversial topics in a calm, respectful manner. It is not required to consider a fellow members' opinion valid, although members are expected to respect everyone's right to their own opinion.

Pornography and images of extreme, graphic, offensive nature are not to be posted on these boards. Foul language is not banned, though we ask you to ask yourself "What would my mother think?" before posting. Excessive foul language used in an insulting, harmful manner towards other members will not be tolerated. Controversial topics are encouraged, so long as members respect each other during discussion. Humorus topics are welcome, completely random topics are asked to be posted somewhere else.

I did not invite anyone to the board in question. Those that I told about the board in question already knew about the board in questions existence. I acted according to my agreements as a moderator on theForce.net, which I feel are more important than my commitments as a member of a Jedi Council spin-off board. I broke none of the stated rules of the forum, and I did not violate that constitution.

EDIT: If you?re referring to the humor thread based on a series of fanfics that I wrote, I believe that I specifically mentioned in the original thread on the board in question that I was reposting it to the Mod Squad (obviously, that?s something that I can?t check right now), and no one had any objections at the time. If I'm wrong, then I apologize.

Excuse me? I'm talking about the humor thread I wrote. You know what I was talking about, obviously it wasn't one of your threads when I said my friends. No one ever said they were going to repost into the Mod Squad and certainly no one would have given you permission to repost it, considering the attitudes towards Joel in there. I can check it, and you never even posted in the thread. It will take a little bit more than "If I'm wrong then I apologize" to rectify that.

Just to clear up one issue. I am not a member of any other board on the Internet. This is the only board I've ever registerd with and I don't even use chat rooms, AOL AIM, you name it. In fact, while I'm at work, I only log in to here and CNN.com, and once in awhile I click on the Official Site to see what's new. As I've said many, many times if you see anyone using my name outside of these forums, rest assured that it is not me. :)

    Sapient-

Check out Gay-Len's post. I literally could not have said it better myself as to what sucks about these boards. Frankly, it all comes back to the administration. The recent trouble with LMM and the horridly unsatisfactory punishment he was dealt, the mangling of the Expanded Universe Community forum, and more importantly, failure to apparently even consider user responses to the new policy, all of it sucks. I'm tired of the way the administration has handled nearly every controversial situation since I have been a member on these forums. The vast majority of mods that I have interacted with have been rude, arrogant, uncaring, and seem to have a horrible time remembering that they were once regular users like the rest of us. Granted, there are a few diamonds in the rough (Such as DarthAttorney, who despite disagreeing with the way he's handled the EUC recently has proven himself to me as a quality individual as well as a pretty good moderator), but for the most part this administration seems to me to be rotten almost to the core.

That's what sucks about these boards. The fact that the user's opinion seems to matter for less than nothing when push comes to shove. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe most of you guys really do care, but I've seen little evidence to suggest that. Quality users are starting to leave these boards thanks to things like this, and if something doesn't change sooner or later you guys going to have a real exodus on your hands. You'll be left moderating only trolls and n00bs.

*shrug* I used to post on a variety of boards pretty frequently (Obviously not as frequently as some, judging by my post count) but now I'm down to basically just browsing the Lit forum and joining in discussions when new novels are released. The reason? This place just isn't fun anymore. I'm realistic enough to know that my absence from the boards affects almost nobody. The Lit forums don't have the sense of kinship that places like the Community have, and I'm not well known over there in the least, so I doubt I am being, or will be, missed by anyone. But what happens when you get more guys like Dushoni leaving, who made honest to goodness friends here on the boards and are extremely well respected? This place would be a real hell hole, well, more of one than it is, without those quality posters to anchor it down. Without them and their contributions to this place it wouldn't have retained half the quality conversation or fun factor that it has, meager as that may be.

What it boils down to for me is that the way things have been handled by you lot in the Mod Squad lately bothered me enough that I've nearly quit posting. The fact that stuff happens that can make me not want to come to the one place that I can really talk about Star Wars...that's what really sucks. :(

Well, you can rest assured I read through every post in Communications. I'm one of the few who actively participate in Communications on a daily basis and throughout the day. I try to be respectful and courteous and I do care about what you say. Hopefully that is evident to all members of the boards.

I jump right into all threads, controversial or not. Avoiding controversial threads is defeating the purpose of being an admin. Life isn't always easy. It's how you handle the bad times and difficult situations that makes you who you are. I'd like to think I never forgot I was a regular member. I still think of myself that way although you don't.

LMM acted on his own behalf. He doesn't represent our attitudes. His punishment can't be dealt with by managers or moderators. We all gave input, but we have no means of enforcing what happens.

And we won't have an exodus because the majority of folks know how to differentiate between problems that are legitimate and need time and discussion to implement change versus drama and instigation. Mature members on both sides realize the difference between a differing opinion versus a perceived power trip.

We care. I care. Try to remember what it was like before you started feeling the boards were rooted with problems. The boards really aren't. In fact, they're better than ever. And whether or not you believe it, all your voices are heard. I believe in the boards and communication and so should all of you.

Admins aren't out to get you. I'm just a guy at work who should be working but posts in here. That's all I am. I have no big ego, I'm well-grounded, I have a sense of humor, I'm a great listener to what you have to say, and I stick to decent morals and principles. I just got promoted, that's all.

I'm just a guy talking about Star Wars. I'm on the same level playing field as you in my mind. So don't tell me what I think. I'm telling you what I think and the way I see it. I am and have always been on your side. When you can accept this and believe it, you'll find the boards to be enjoyable again. :)

We never lock threads because of bias towards a user, or to target anyone, or because of past transgressions. We do our best to lock threads that have been derailed, inappropriate in nature, in the wrong forum, redundant, or spam. And as we are all aware, moderating something as spam is and has always been a gray area. For the most part, I think there are accepted definitions of spam. We try to be consistent in moderating that.

We don't want to have to lock threads. But sometimes we do and we ask that you try to look objectively at why a thread was closed and try to understand where we're coming from. If you disagree with the reasoning, PM that admin to try and resolve it or get clairification. If this method of resolution were used more often, I'd bet that 95% or more of the things we see in Communications as problems would actually be settled quite amiably and quickly through the simple use of a PM.
