Yep and when Maul butted Qui-Gon in the head knocking him off balance for the death kill, he simply caught the Jedi Master off guard.

And no Obi-Wan was not the better fighter during TPM, he attacked Maul out of anger, in short he had a little help from the dark side. As Qui-Gon laid dying he reached out to his apprentice through the force, and helped calm him.

Anyway, its not so much a question of winning, as much as it is the question of intensity. I think the duel would have been quite intense, especially since Qui-Gon would have known what to do. Mace and his 'posse' obviously did NOT, which is why they got butchered. Qui-Gon would probably have first gathered important members of the senate, such as Amidala, Bail, etc etc so as to protect the Jedi politically as well as isolate palpatine. He would not just have barged in gung-ho style.

Also, I doubt Qui-Gon would have taken as many Jedi as mace did, he would have probably have taken either Obi-wan and/or Yoda. To be honest, an Obi-Wan and Qui-gon team could have taken out anyone, sidious included, especially when the obi-wan is the grown up version, not the 'punk' he was in tpm.

Last but not least, the duel would have been fun. Qui-Gon had the most unique fighting style of all, which included back handed b!tch slapping as well as leg sweeps if you recall the duel of the fates. It would have been great to have him do that to palps. ALso, Anakin would NEVER have struck Qui-Gon; apart from the obvious reasons, Qui-Gon just gives off those 'Don't mess with me' vibes without even speaking; something Mace never can get off no matter the cheesy phrases he uses.

Bottom line: Darth Maul may have defeated Jinn, but Sidious was a much older man. More powerful in the force, certainly, but in lightsaber combat he just did not have the endurance Maul had, nor Mauls power, intensity and speed. Just as Maul wore down Jinn, and THEN picked him off, Jinn in turn would have done the same to Palpatine.

And keep in mind while Sidious may have trained Maul, Qui-Gon trained Obi-Wan, the jedi who basicall waded through all of Sidious's apprentices, top commanderss, and his overall schemes in general. Obi-Wan also survived the purge and went on to set into motion plans that would ultimately destroy the sith forever. Not too shabby eh, Qui-Gon obviously taught him well.

Any comments are welcome; just keep in mind this is a WHAT IF, and a big one at that.

(oh and qui-gon vs dooku would have owned as well. IMO qui-gon would have won that one as well.)

If sidious trained maul that means he is most prob and is strong that him. Then Maul killed Qui-gon so what u think will happen? easy
