I hope that the audience at Qui Gonns funeral didn't stay there for the whole thing. I know I wouldn't want to watch the body of a human being burn until it became a pile of ashes, especially if he were my friend.

Obi-Wan, Anakin, Mace and Yoda were all talking. Kinda disrespectful.

Palpatine revelled in the smell of burning flesh.

Anakin was the worst. "What will happen to me now?" Obi-Wan should've said, "You'll shut up and show some respect to my dead master, you little twerp. That's what."

Obi-Wan should have smacked that little kid on the back of the head, then used his light saber to cut down Yoda and Mace Windu. That would have made people be more respectful.

I never even thought about that. LOL

I don't know about the funerals that you guys visit, but the ones I go to people are social butterflies and everyone is talking. :p Then again, the person isn't being burned. Ah, how sad funerals are :(

    LOL! [face_laugh]

I don't think I would want to watch a dead man burn to ashes either.

Oh, and Luke watched VADER burn! burn! burn! too!

I think Vader disappeared and Luke just burnt the suit.

I like to think so too. Because after the nice gesture of taking off his helmet just before he dies, why would Luke put it back on him? And burning the suit is a lot more symbolic if it's just the suit.

If it was an accepted part of your culture, it would be common practice for you.

Still, you'd be watching your best friends body slowly burn and watch as his flesh and bones turned to ash. If I saw that I would pass out and upon waking up pass out again after remebering what I saw.

Considering it's the funeral practice for Jedi, and given the Jedi philosophy regarding death, I can't imagine it's an emotionally debilatating thing for them to see (as for Anakin, he was raised in the underground - this is nothing new to him). Ambidala and the Naboo are likely there out of respect. Cremation seems to be the galactic standard in the GFFA.

In regards to the conversations going on, body burning strikes me as more post-ceremonial than anything else. Any "last rites" would be said beforehand, and the pyre burning afterward is more along the lines of the moments after a coffin has been lowered into the ground and everyone is reflecting.

This is Ray Parks, if you're curious. He's the guy who also did Toad in X-Men. If you rewatch the funeral scene, keep an eye out to try and spot him. :)
