Liam Neeson is around 8 years younger than Ian McDiarmid, and his Qui Gon Jinn looks clearly at least 5-10 years younger than Palpatine in EP I, it just didn't make much sense that Qui Gon Jinn was 60 at that time and 10 years older than Palpatine.

    Politics ages one severely.

Conversely, Force Users may age a bit slower than normal.

Alec Guinness was only 63 when Star Wars premiered in 1977 so he would have (presumably) been 61-62 during filming, only 3 to 5 years older than Obi-Wan's canonical age of 58. Obi-Wan was 25 in TPM, then 35 in AOTC and 38 in ROTS. He would thus have been about 58 in ANH. Not that far off from Alec Guinness's age.

Stress and grief can prematurely age a person. Look at United States presidents as an example -- they age prematurely due to the stress of the office. Harsh living conditions can also prematurely age a person.

The famous "Afghan girl" on Time magazine's cover is often thought to be in her late teens/early twenties:

She was actually 12 when this picture was taken, but difficult living conditions aged her prematurely.

Tyrannus, do you ever - skip that.

You are asking why Obi-Wan looks to have aged MORE than 20 years in 20 years. What kind of answer do you want anyway? He aged because he went from Ewan to Alec. He aged because of bad genes. He aged because he was in a dry, desert environment. He aged because he was worn down with grief and sorrow at losing everything and everyone dear to him. He aged because his pupil and friend turned Sith and killed everything and everyone he cared for. He aged because the Republic he defended and believed in was replaced by an Empire ruled by a Sith. He aged because his apprentice's children never knew their parents.

I could go on and on.

What don't you ever propose answers to some of your own questions - that is, when you're not telling us to tell you why this or why that. Do you ever refer to the Wook? To older threads?

How much do you think obi wan aged, not in years, but in looks? People w/plastic surgery can be 60, but look 30. How old did obi wan look in episode 3, versus how old he looked in episode 4?
