I'm looking for detail for a pre-TPM fic.

Does anyone know of any incident in the books, comics, or other related material where there is an official code or procedure named for dealing with or chasing a renegade Jedi? Has any procedure been mentioned (for example, would the Order need permission from local law enforcement to arrest a rogue Jedi on their planet)?

Thanks in advance for any help on this one. :)

You might want to post this in Literature, HaiGan. There are experts there who read everything.

JaneJinn has some good advice there. She always seems to. :)

But here is one thing to also consider: the beauty of Star Wars, and Fan Fiction, is it's creative plot flexibility. You could make up the law, the procedure, and you can make it as detailed as you want it; in fact the more realisitic it is the more of a hook of belief it becomes; folks like a little realism in their fantasy stories.

Plus, you could make it a major plot point in a legal or ethics drama stituation. Say, off the top of my head, a rogue Jedi goes to a Trade Federation world with two Jedi hot on his tail. They catch them, but TraFed law does not necessarily recognize the Jedi's arresting authority. From there you can surmise over a dozen plot points to continue the story.

There is, in fact, laws here in the States (or even in your country if you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen) that range differently from state to state regardless how close they are to one another. The U.S. Constitution, for example, is limited in describing the rights of authorities to cross state lines. The U.S. Code of Justice is a little broader in explanation, but ultimately it's the states themselves that rely on their own laws, especially when the criminal has been arrested in their state after being chased there by another state entity.

Here's some more help; there is a legal procedure know as Extradition; the state that chased him/her can go to the arresting state and request an Extradition hearing.

A good example why: say the criminal in question murdered someone cold in State A, which State A has the Death Penalty and is chased into State B, in which he commits a murder there but State B has no Death Penalty. More or less, he doesn't want to go back to State A.

Now 9 times out of ten State B doesn't fight the hearing, and sometimes the fugitive does wave his right to the hearing. However there is times fights occur between the states, or in the case of SW, a disagreement over who gets to try the Rogue Jedi.

I hope that helps. PM me if you need anything more.

it all depends on how you portray the Jedi. If they are as above the law protectors, they wouldn't bother with getting permsiion. If not, as sort of under the law, suspenctable to the influence of jerks like Borsk Fey'lya, then they might have to go to the senatorial representatives of the world in question and recieve permsission.

That too! The possibilites with this are as large or small as your imagination. It could be a minor plot point, or it could be THE plot of the story.

Oooh, some bunnies there Casper and Liz! Thank you! Someone on the Literature board came up with a spot-on reference for this, but your suggestions might also be relevant for something else I've been working on. Mistress Renata! Oh Renata! You know that bunny we've been grooming recently...
