TTG: The one luminous sock fools approaching nighttime motorists into thinking I am a mono-pedal orphan, so they are less inclined to intentionally run me over.

Peter Jackson is the editor that JRR Tolkien should have had!

No Tom Bombadil,
Boromir is a more rounded, interesting character,
Arwen actually has a backbone,
Samwise is not such a wimp,
No singing,
Lots of suitably tasty eyecandy (sfx, costumes and men )
No faffing around for nearly 20 years between finding out that the Ring is dangerous and doing something about it!
No introduction of characters for one scene that we'll never get to meet again.

Not to mention that every single performance just completely kicked butt. I ask you, can you read the Rivendell scenes and NOT hear Ian McKellen and Hugo Weaving as their respective characters?

Yes, I love the book (it's in my reread pile) if I had to chose one or the other - I'm sticking with PJ's interpretation.
