Crushing The Core - My, that was nice. You've got an nice eye into the Jedi that is Qui-Gon. That his being different do not make him less. You show the balance that the Jedi Order it self seemed to upset by expecting everyone to be as one. Lovely fic... really lovely. [:D] [:D]

Edit: Managed to finally finish my own and figure to put it up, though I feel it hardly works after such a good one... :p

Quote #46 'Let your hook always be cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish' ~~~ Ovid

    Hook, Line and Sinker

They had completed this simple mission without any hint of disaster, mayhem and impending death, and that left Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master in one of his infrequently expansive moods. Along with the sudden and impulsive desire to stretch his longs legs and take in the local sights, he was delivering archaic and obscure quotations with a relish usually reserved for lightsaber training.

Obi-Wan ambled beside the large man, weaving through the throng of the open air marketplace that drew his master. His mind was divided into listening and analyzing the phrases and quotation that his master tossed his way and what they may mean in terms of a lesson, for he knew beyond doubt there was a lesson here. Another part of his mind was attuned to his master, his gaze, his body language, anything that would provide a clue as to the man's intentions on this excursion.

From this the young man noted how the Force surrounded Qui-Gon, how it flowed from him in a harmonious extension of his essence. How their bond pulsed with it, a manifestation of the Jedi Master's candid delight he derived from being enveloped in the Living Force made vibrant by the gathering of so many beings.

The third thing to diverge his faculties were the people themselves. Beings of all sorts very busy and often nosily conducting business, pleasure and merriment in the large city square.

Merchants boisterously hawked wares and dickered over prices claimed excessive and robbery by potential buyers. Couples strolled the lanes oblivious to the tradesmen that waved and called out to them or the conspicuous number of un-chaperoned children that darted through the crowd, an evident game of catch me in progress. Pretty girls sauntered through the crowd desperately trying to look bored and uninterested as they attempted to catch the eye of some young man feigning an equal and unsuccessful disinterest.

The sun was now high and the temperature as well and before too long they were at a refreshment stand where they could find something to quench their thirsts.

"Let your hook always be cast,? Qui-Gon Jinn intoned good-naturedly as he handed back the small leather satchel to his padawan for safekeeping, the sum of their meager credit allowance.

?Obi-Wan?? The Jedi Master turned back as the pouch dangled unmet to see the back of a brown robe tuned toward him.

?Oh, sorry master,? a befuddled sixteen year old Obi-Wan Kenobi turned toward the large man and reaching for the purse and hastily tucking it into his sash.

?Thank you,? Qui-Gon?s rich baritone voice offered with a gracious smile to the proprietor behind the counter as he was handed a pair of frosted juice packets.

Presenting Obi-Wan with his plasti-pouch of refreshment, Qui-Gon glanced past his protégé to what it was that caught the young man?s attention. Across the walkway was a rather attractive young lady who, though the weather did advocate a minimum of attire, took the idea to a rather inventive extreme. A young lady who once he caught her eye disappeared into the crowd.

?Had you heard what I said,? he inquired, resisting the urge to smile at the bloom of pink that surfaced on the young man?s face.

?Um? of course master,? Obi-Wan thought hard to pull out of his mind, and the Force, his master?s recent words ?had said something about fishing,? Obi-Wan answered with confidence that turned to fluster when his reply brought about only a raised eyebrow from the stoic Jedi.

?What I said was,? Qui-Gon beg

A wonderful response to the challenge, Leona! :D Poor Obi-Wan, to realise too late what the object lesson was - and in such a humiliating manner! And trust him to misinterpret what the young females were up to! I suppose he'll only become more wordly-wise with the passage of time! But most of all I loved the way that Qui-Gon stood stoically by and watched it happen. What a lesson to learn! :)

    [face_laugh] Poor, poor Obi-Wan. :p

It wasn?t like he was doing anything wrong, in fact the way he saw it, he was merely doing what his master had often suggested, focusing on the present, the here and now. And there she was again, here and now walking his way.

Aerex_Matare - That was a very sweet story. Excellent response to the quote too. And some very interesting things to think about as well. =D=

mouse2 - Ha! [face_laugh] Excellent use of the quote and a very funny story to boot. =D=

-The-Negotiator- Ooohhh, excellent story. And a very thought provoking story for a thought provoking quote. =D=

Leona [face_laugh] Oh dear. Poor Obi-Wan. Though I think he does deserve some of the blame. From the sound of it she didn't really have anywhere to hide that pouch after she lifted it. Silly padawan. Great use of the quote! =D=

Jennifer_Lyn: Oooh, loved it. Especially Plagueis swiping the Whills!

Arul: His hair? [face_laugh] Well, at least he's very good at taking care of it. I don't know, I'd like the Batman Begins cut on him better. [face_love]

DWH: ?No, no, I wasn?t implying that? I?m sure you smell great.? Even as sleepy as he was, he inwardly grimaced as soon as the words left his mouth, and tried to cover for it. ?Not that I?ve been sniffing you or anything??

[face_laugh] Not quite the best cover, but hey, she laughed. :D

Aerex: The Jedi never could answer that riddle. Why do we look for the answers so far off instead of getting them where we are?

Maybe that's why I left. The Code never did satisfy.

:( Interesting question for the Jedi to ponder. But a hopefully ending! I wouldn?t mind seeing more about these two. [face_mischief]

mouse: [face_laugh] Loved it! Great way to use the quote. What is it about physics teachers? I had one like vader_incarnate?s. :p

Shock white hair that stood out in all directions as the professor stood in front of his new class.

    Albert Einstein? 8-}

Negotiator: ?Their respect holds no value for me. Master Windu, Master Rancissis, even Master Yoda?they are not my apprentice. You are. When I have your respect, I have everything I need.?

Oooh, burn! And the rest was beautiful. [face_love] That last line, though!

Leona: I was right, it was about fishing,

    Haha! Naughty Obi! [face_mischief]

All I can is BRAVO! to all of these. I'm supposed to be cooking dinner but just wanted to say that I'm amazed at the high quality of work that has come about from this challenge, though why I'm surprised I don't know. Look at the talent here! So =D= [face_dancing] =D= to all of the authors!

    ~ ~ ~

Qui-Gon looked on helplessly as his Padawan drifted endlessly in the between state. The elder Master was all but in pieces, tired and worn over the last trying session of missions.

Once again, the Master of the pair seemed to have failed his young charge. It seemed that no matter how he tried, the man simply couldn't keep the boy safe. Qui-Gon had more than once felt driven to the edge of insanity by the extreme aptness of his apprentice to get into the most dangerous situations without trying or wanting to.

So, once again the big Jedi was sitting at his apprentice?s side, while the tiny boy was left drifting. Drifting it seemed, in between his Master, and the Force.

The Master hoped desperately that the child would return to him. After the child- no. After his child had once again been wounded, they had been forced to flee. Qui-Gon had taken his fallen child, and soared off into space, only to be dragged out of hyper space a few hours later, attacked by pirates.

Obi-Wan had typically awakened for the battle, just long enough to stress his injuries, cause new ones, bang himself around, save the day, and pass out once again.

Now, the Jedi Master was sitting around, feeling incredibly useless, while waiting for his child to heal, and their ship to get all the necessary repairs. Not that the Moons of Iego weren't beautiful. In fact, it was quite the contrary. They were beautiful beyond words. Etasa, the moon upon which they currently resided, was encompassed in eternal night. The planet sheltering it from any form of light, save that of its sister moons. It lived on the soft forms of radiation that could pass through Iego's rather unique minerals.

The people, now they were a sight onto themselves. 'Angels', humans called them. A name, if he recalled, was from old human legends, whose sources were long forgotten. Pale beings with wings, who built tall spires with one way in our out. Large bay windows that left non native inhabitants up in the air. Literally.

?Master Jedi?? A soft voice queried gently into his thoughts.

The elder human started badly. He never got used to their odd way of entering a room, sliding in on silent wings, so not even Jedi senses could detect them.

Sometimes he nearly wanted to curse them. All were Force sensitive to some degree, beautiful beyond any doubt, and very nearly immortal. And with his most precious child laying there in one of their plentiful, yet nearly unnecessary healing wards, it was difficult not to wish them all some kind of harm. He tired to ignore this new being in room.

'Please... just go away!' The Jedi fumed within his own mind.

The being merely cocked her head to the side. ?Now, now, Master Jedi... There's no need for that kind of reception. I'm merely here to check on the boy.? She said from the large window doors from which she had just swept in upon her silver tinged wings.

?You call him a boy, Lady....?

    ?Azure, Master Jedi.?

?Yet, you look not a day older than he.?

The celestial child's wings rustled in response. ?I am over five millennium old, thank you, give or take a few centuries.? Azure informed him curtly.

Jinn blinked at that. Surely, this being could not be that old. She was still fresh in face. Silver hair falling in soft waves, framing a stereotypically angelically carved face. Eyes revealing from whence her name came, piecingly bright as the sky on Coruscant on a clear day. Not but pure blue staring back at him. With a slim yet athletic build that stood before him swathed in the white and silver r

Seven, that was a most lovely story. Really reminded me of the old days and the proliferation of 'Obi-Torture' stories. LOL Not that they neccessarily tortured him. Anyways, this was amost delightful one.

Title: Those Who Live In Glass Houses
    Genre: Humor
    Timeframe: JA
Characters: Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and two very embarrassed OC's.
Notes: I thought these things were supposed to be doable?! Forgive me; I started writing it and I couldn't stop. The only good thing I can say about it is it's short. And amusing...in a humiliating sort of way.
Quote: #131: "Those who live in a glass house should never make out on the couch." -- kid in vader_incarnate's English class.

Edit: Oh no... Were we supposed to post the actual thing in here? [face_worried] I'm sorry! I've already posted it...

    Bah... here, hold on...

    -----------------------------------

    It began innocently enough.

Mari and Ropeth had agreed that, as Mistress and bodyguard, they would have to keep their feelings for one another secret, and likewise, they would have to disregard them. Sure, there was the physical chemistry?no one was more beautiful than the other in both of their minds; all right, they attracted, in all forms of the word, like opposite poles of a magnet.

But that did not change their very different statuses. It did not alter the fact that they both had certain expectations, certain duties, to uphold.

So they sat on the couch in the impressive common room of Mari?s father?s house with two arms? length of empty space between them, each determinedly avoiding the gaze of the other.

?When do you suppose the escorts will arrive?? Mari asked uninterestedly. Her fingers twiddled nervously with those of her other hand.

?Soon, I?m sure. Mistress,? added the bodyguard. His cheeks flushed a crimson hue that was considerably less delicate than his companion?s.

The moments ticked by. Neither was sure of what they should say (though it was painfully apparent to both what they wanted to say). The young Mistress fidgeted restlessly, first with her hands and then with her blouse?s buttons, and then with her yellow-brown tresses. Ropeth, having been trained by the rough hand of Mari?s father?s head of security, was well versed in the art of sitting completely still?but his eyes moved slowly from one corner of the room to the other, taking in every small movement that his charge made.

?And these people?they?re Jedi,? said Mari in a stab at an airy, offhand tone.

?So I?m told, Mistress,? answered Ropeth dutifully.

Silence swooped down eagerly to gather up the room in its clutches; Mari thought wryly that it was almost preferable to the awkward stabs at conversation.

?Ropeth?? The bodyguard looked up slowly, meeting her crystalline stare with practiced obedience. ?Please tell me again?where we?re going??

?We?re to meet your father at his banquet in Thot.? His reply was wooden, but his eyes glistened with light akin to his mistress?s. ?We will be crossing potentially dangerous woodland territory, so your father requested that the Jedi ambassadors accompany us, since we?re on their way. He thought a little extra protection might be?beneficial.?

Mari read the bitterness in his words correctly. ?For what it?s worth,? she said quietly, ?I don?t agree with him.?

A carefully guarded face tipped down to catch her eye. ?I beg your pardon, Mistress??

?You?re the most capable guard we have.? Timidly, she moved a little closer, shrinking the distance between them, reaching up to brush that rebellious lock of hair from his eyes. Her voice trembled slightly as she said, ?I couldn?t possibly trust anyone else as much as I trust you. Not even a Jedi.?

?Two,? corrected Ropeth quietly. He did not look away as he caught her hand and kissed it lightly, a wordless inquiry. She blinked. ?There are two Jedi coming for you, Mistress.?

?Two, twenty?? Mari nodded her head once, resolutely, eyes sparkling. ?It doesn?t make any difference.? When her trusted protector leaned down coyly to touch his lips to hers, she met his attempt with absolute joy.
