R2D2 mail box

Hi all in Madison,

While Madison is not getting the R2D2 mailbox, Milwaukee has gotten one. If you find yourself in town, R2 can be found at 14th and Wisconsin Ave on the Marquette University campus.

I sense a photo op!

I sense federal laws being broken.

that would be nice, now just how long will that remain there thats the question

I'm thinking that these boxes will be out until at least the release of the stamps (rumor has it there will be first day covers that coincide with the anniversary of the release of ANH). And you should see how well bolted down the box is.

As a stamp collector as well. Part of me inside is squealing with glee. *makes a mental note that she needs to take a trip to visit R2*

I wish we were getting one we could travel to it like we traveled around town when we did that vader thing, good times.

Good news Madison fans! While the original list did not include Madison, it seems you folks did get an R2 mailbox. It was posted on the Frappr map of R2 post box sightings and it is listed as being at Regent & Randall. (The Frappr map R2 project even made it onto Starwars.com as a news story and they used my photo in the "Artoo Spotters: click here to view images" button.)

These would have been better as Gonk droids.

Except that no non-SW nerd knows what a Gonk Droid is. At least non-nerds recognize R2

I'm sorry but R2-D2 trash cans would have been much cooler.

maybe Saturday the 14th we could go out there since we'll be over there for filmcon.

I'll be coming to Madison for Filmcon on that Saturday. We should be arriving in the early after noon, but that could be changed if it is not too much earlier. Let me know when you folks are going to try to go for a photo. If I get my new Jawa costume done, I might bring that or my Jedi or my Leia.

Hmm.. I heard they would be around for three weeks. What's going to happen to them once they are gone?

from what I understand the R2's are just decals I assume they will just be pealed off. Though I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of them were sold via an auction or something

I saw some while I was in Chicago this past weekend they're pretty neat. Hopefully it's still around when FIlmcon hits. It would be fun to get a picture by it.
