What is the point of an air freshener that smells worse than anything it could possibly cover up?

I can't quite place what the scent is supposed to be (rancid pine, maybe?), but whatever they just put in the office bathroom is absolutely disgusting.

Discuss. Or pose your own unexplainable mystery of the universe. Maybe someone around here knows the answer!

Same reason they submit the subject of the injection to a comprehensive physical exam prior to said injection. Gotta be healthy to be executed.
