Steve Sansweet's latest doorstop:
Coming this fall!
Not merchandise, but interesting nonetheless:
First, there was the collaboration between Lucasfilm and designer Marc Ecko for a line of Star Wars-inspired apparel. Beginning in January 2010, LFL is releasing a line of products with......ADIDAS!
[link=http://gizmodo.com/5296824/trash-compactor-bookends-will-hopefully-crush-your-prequel-dvds]The best way to contain your SW DVDs. Yeah the prequels are appropriate for this scene... lol[/link]
It's funny how these sites that have areas where you can post your thoughts always have "fans" who say Lucas is a sellout, he should "burn in hell" for putting stuff out there, are the same ones who are still (after 30+ years) looking for SW stuff to buy! If the demand is there, it'll get made. You don't have to buy it, but someone out there will. If these people had an ounce of creativity, they'd go make something that fans would really want. Everyone's a critic. It's just like people who bash on movies, music or whatever - if you think you know what people will like and make money, then do it! Don't waste my time with your pessimistic view of the world, you lonely dweebs with the swollen forearms. These are the same people that say they hate the prequels, but saw it in the theaters more than once, boughht the DVD's and toys, AND would kiss George's a** if they met him in person!
I sense a little frustration/anger there... Now I don't think Lucas should "burn in hell" first of all. lol
However, YOU, Matty who loves Star Wars beyond the story, love it also because it was revolutionary and a series of movies produced in a revolutionary way. That's all well a good... very respectable and amazing originally. Production is probably my weak spot in SW Trivia (strong against the casual fan). It's not that important to me, cos to me, production is NOT the story itself which prior to 1999 was... how do I put this... my religion... my faith. lol...
However, because it's not the story directly most people don't care how it was made but the end result. So to many fans or as you call them "fans" it's hard to say LFL is producing anything quality anymore for the franchise... It's become a juggernaut that has flash and flare without the substance it once had because it's no longer hungry to attract a fan base and make a solid story. The accountablity and quality of the universe has gone down considerably and even Lucas does not even know his own legend anymore. So the story has taken a turn for the marketing but people were so hungry for newer parts of the legend that we were blinded but this hunger to the point were you would see TPM a dozen times or so.
If you're starving you think any crap tastes awesome... I was the last person prior to 1999 to say a negative word against anything LFL. It would a been considered a personal assault to my honor if anyone else did and every breathe you took would have stained the two greatest words in the universe: STAR WARS... After TPM I thought AOTC redeemed it a little (other the the "love" scenes)... why? The out break of the Clone Wars was awesome, Jar Jar caused it... (thus him being weak as heck in TPM was good cos he literally F's the galaxy and we're suppose to hate him! lol), and YODA FIGHTS...
...Then came Episode III... the greatest anti-climatic fall of a hero ever... Anakin goes from Jedi hero to Sith Lord in 1 second flat... and I can prove it. Anakin: "What have I done?!", 1 second later, "Vader": "I will do whatever you ask"... So when the casual fans says it's a load that's one thing... However, when I say it's a load, as someone who specializes in every detail of the story till the point of knowing SW history better than the history of the actual world... That should tell you something was seriously wrong right there and I agree with those "fans" that it was a huge disappointment... We were deceived into believing it was gonna be the same quality and same level of greatness/glory as the OT... We wanted to believe... and believe desperately that it could not fail but even I'll say it did.
Now a days... I love only certain aspects of Star Wars... Vader still has appeal but not as much as back in the day for me cos of the weak performance of t
hahaha... something for the lil gals. =)
