I ran into a mom I know from school today. She said she is working as a waitress now to pay for her kids' cell phones. I have NO problem with waitressing, having been a waitress myself for MANY years. It was her rationale for going to work that appalled me. WTF?
My easy solution (at least for my family...). The kid doesn't get a cell phone until the kid gets a job to pay for it. My kids are already pestering me for a cell phone. The answer is "No". For now...
