I would say for me ...

1. Empire
2. Jedi (I know, I know Ewoks, but the third act is the best Star Wars act in any SW movie IMO)
3. A New Hope
4. The Force Awakens
5. Rogue One
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. The Phantom Menace
8. Attack of the Clones

Rogue has higher highs than The Force Awakens I think, but the first 40-45 minutes of the picture is kind of convoluted, if they had used that first half to create a more clear narrative and build chemistry between the main characters, I think it had the potential to move above TFA. But the second half of the film is quite entertaining and makes up for it.

 

I have ROTS above RO simply because the film has some of the most dramatic and important scenes in the history of the franchise. Rogue One isn't a slouch, even though it's on the lower end of my list. I just love the others a little bit more.

 

I think it absolutely pulls in imagery from the PT. The Mustafar moment feels straight out of Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for the OT yet obviously originates in the PT in terms of onscreen portrayal. Continuity-wise, it's a success at bridging both trilogies.

I just feel that the grit and toil of Rogue One is hinted at in the OT and seems to exist mostly offscreen, but doesn't seem to exist anywhere in the world of the PT films, onscreen or off. (in TCW, yes). TPM and R1 seem to exist in two completely different universes in my eyes.

 

I think TPM's Tattooine feels reasonably in line with everything else in the saga, but as time goes past I give it more and more of a pass as it does depict the Galaxy under benign ruler ship for the most part.
The glossy look of the other prequels is harder to reconcile, even if ROTS is a better film.

It's only been out for a day, let's not overreact. But If I had to rank it off first viewing, The only "Episode" film i'd rank it over is "Clones". It's a good entry into the franchise but falls short to a lot of the episodes because I cared more about the characters and they were more memorable. With that said it works perfectly as a bridge between "Sith" and "Hope".

It's not in the choices above, but it's tied for #1 with ANH and ESB for me. It was the most 'realistic' of the series, and underscored the sheer amount of sacrifices that the Rebellion went through just to have the chance that they did in ANH. Plus Vader like I've always wanted to see him!

 

I'm sure once some of this hype and adrenaline wear off R1 will slide down the list a bit for me but right now on pure spectical and feeling it will stay right where it is lol.

Well I wasn't expecting that- have to say I thoroughly enjoyed Rogue One (thank you Lord!), but I don't exactly know where to place it. One part of my brain- named Initial Reaction- is saying "that was better than Episode III!" while another- named Nostalgia- is saying "you can't put it above the first six, especially with only one viewing!" Well sorry, Nostalgia, but I'm going to side with Initial Reaction right now:
