It was at the absolute very least considered as a setting for the film's cold open, but I've heard stories that it was at one point considered for for the entire film. I think Spielberg shot it down because he considered it too similar to Poltergeist, which he produced (and is rumored to have practically co-directed), but I'm too lazy to verify that right now. The haunted castle idea has always been one I've been partial to.

 

Same here. I love movies set in an old dark mysterious mansion with hidden passages and catacombs, especially some of those produced in the 30's and 40's. The problem with an Indy movie, is would that type of setting be expansive enough as it would be a massive change to the formula?

I would've loved the haunted castle for TLC.

 

The haunted castle idea also has me thinking, what about Castle Dracula where Indy could've been in pursuit of an item used by Vlad The Impaler? That could've been awesome, but after TOD maybe too dark for Spielberg's liking since he wanted to lighten it up so much more.

Oh man, that's awesome. I think that could work for Indy 5.

 

We can safely say between ridiculous stunts like this and him publicly trashing KOTCS to the point he was on bad terms with Ford and Spielberg for it that Shia definitely won't be back. At least he gave us this for a good laugh

 

I just realized 5 will be the first time Disney makes an Indy film now that they have the rights. Wonder how it might turn out under them? TFA I think turned out great so I'm fairly confident they'll also do Indy fine.

All are very good in my book and I'm confident 5 will retain the quality.

 

Disney has a proven track record as far as I am concerned. It'll work out better.

 

Didn't they do a Young Indy movie based on Vlad the impaler?

 

Don't know if they did an episode on it.

 

The season finale of season 2: "Transylvania, January 1918."

 

Never knew that. Guess that means we won't see it as a possible fifth film.

I'd still like to see a more Horror-oriented quest and artifact for the next film. The Pazuzu statue could be cool.

 

I guess this movie will take place in the late sixties?

Tension with Vietnam (given the war) I guess would be the appropriate choice. What artifacts are they related to? The Vietnamese aren't particularly religious.

 

Supposedly its taking place straight after KOTCS, so late 50's.

 

I recently picked up the Indy Blu Ray set quite cheap and plan to revisit the movies soon. I've seen the first three multiple times, but have only seen KOTCS once (in theater in 2008). Based on this slightly fuzzy memory, I'd rank them:

1) Raiders of the Lost Ark
2) The Last Crusade
3) Temple of Doom
4) Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I'll report back if that order changes after seeing them again! The two top are very close, so that could well shift.

 

I love all four, but If I had to rank them it would be

I know what it's like having shifting favorites.

 

I've re-watched Raiders and Temple in recent weeks, my feelings on those two haven't changed. The mine cart sequence really makes the latter special. Crystal Skull is the only one I'm unsure about, so I'm excited to see that again!

Enjoy them all, saw Raiders in theaters a couple years ago and it was great.

 

I regret not seeing the Raiders re-release but I don't think my town had it back in 2012.

 

Just realized this thread has been here for more than two years. Time flies. By the time Indy 5 is out it'd probably be best to start a brand new one. At the rate time is going it'll be 2019 before we know it.
