1. Incredilbe Hulk- This is the Aang Lee thing, yes? This is probably the best one, even though I still don't understand about the creepy janitor or what exactly was fighting who in the last half hour or so. The beginning was kind of weird too. But it was still a character treatment, so it wins a lot of favor from me.

2. Avengers- My issues with the film are well known, but it was probably the best refinement of this style of story-telling we've seen to date.

3. Iron Man- As much as I dislike the lead, it had enormously more in the way of actual story and character treatment than most all the subsequent films. Which is surprising because compared to the earlier Hulk, it didn't really have much at all.

4. Captain America- Mostly unmemorable, with a few interesting nods towards the spirit of the era.

5. Thor- this movie wasn't about anything

6. Thor Number Two- this movie wasn't about anything and had more dumb action sequences

93. Iron Man 2- This film is viscerally disgusting. The plot is unintelligible, the writing is painful, the characters are deeply and provocatively unlikable down to a man. I don't think I've ever had such an unenjoyable film viewing experience at any in the last 5-10 years. At multiple points I was very close to simply walking out, and I only regret that I did not. Really a bad time with this one.

I haven't seen the rest.

Anyways for me it's Dark World, Avengers, then Thor. The rest lie on around the same level.

...aaaand nothing else I found particularly worthwhile. Haven't seen IM3 or Thor 2, but I kind of doubt I'd have high opinions of those.

with the exception of the Avengers I prefer the first two Spidey and X-flicks as well as Lee's Hulk for Marvel movies

 

The Avengers is the best on the list while either two of the Hulk movies should rank dead last.

I expect Winter Soldier to be knocking some of these down. Avengers wins because it was a great ensemble movie with a simple, but effective story and the cast gave it their all. Captain America just wins because nazis, Tommy Lee Jones as well as Evans really holding his own as the star along with a kick-ass love interest (in comparison to Betty, Pepper and Jane). Iron Man nearly took this spot. But the movie itself is really carried by Robert Downey Jr. Some of the supporting cast and writing was really weak and it only worked because RDJ was the lead. Thor 1 just slightly over Thor 2 as the villain was better developed, I liked the writing better too (the hammer on Loki for example). Thor 2 was better in many ways except the one that counted: The villain and threat. Not developed enough so it was harder to care. Iron Man 2 just edges out Incredible Hulk thanks to a few cool scenes and funny moments. Iron Man 3 is on the bottom mostly because the film felt like it fell apart after the Mandarin reveal. I liked where it was going and then it just went another way and it was good, but not great.

I don't think I can stress enough that Cap is miles above the others and Iron Man 2 is miles below. The Avengers works as a spectacle and it's a fun ride, but it's not something I want to keep returning to. Iron Man 3 was a blast and feels really fresh but also very comfortable dealing with a character instead of a concept. The Incredible Hulk was quite fun for me, and Thor 2 nearly catches that cosmic Marvel vibe and nearly feels like Jack Kirby's best stuff on the big screen. Iron Man, to me, feels like a prehistoric ancestor - Marvel's really moved away from that and developed their own sort of tone. Honestly, Iron Man 1 is weird because it only vaguely hints at other stuff in the post-credits stinger. You don't get a sense of a larger shared world, which is what a movie like Cap does pretty well - totally excusable, though, because IM1 was the first.
