In three clear tiers - probably just my age (I'll never again be a little kid watching New Hope) but whilst I've enjoyed all the new films - you just can't match the originals so given up hoping that anything will. In my opinion - the Disney films are much better than the prequels so they are second tier. Despite its faults, I'd still look forward to a ROTS re-watch so that sneaks into the 2nd tier.

I'm not sure how well it will fare on repeated viewings. I've ranked it 4th and the best after the originals but wouldn't be surprised if it dropped a few spots if I did this again in a couple of years. Luke's storyline is what it is and I'm fine with it - it makes sense and works for me - not everyone ends up how you want them to end up. I suspect the middle portion could get dull on repeated viewings down the line though.

Both AOTC and TPM have (in my opinion) long stretches that are just dull and/or cringe worthy - there's just no appeal for me whatsoever at all to watch them back again. For all its faults, ROTS is enjoyable to re-watch.

I don't think the acting is good enough in any of them which is a shame. ROTS had the tools to be fantastic with a bit better acting and writing but fell short of its potential.

I know I should see it again in theaters but I am really not feeling like going and seeing it again. Certain parts, yes, but the whole film? Not really. Saw ROTS and TFA twice in theaters. TPM, AOTC and R1 only once in theaters. Wanted to see R1 again but work was busy.

I wonder with so many films if it's time to start ranking them according to their sets (PT, OT, ST, AT etc) It's getting too hard... [face_thinking]

    PT
    1 - AOTC
    2 - TPM
    3 - ROTS

    OT
    1 - ROTJ
    2 - TESB
    3 - ANH

    ST
    1 - TFA
    2 - TLJ
    3 -

    AT
    1 - RO
    2 - Caravan of Courage :D
    3 - Battle for Endor
    4 -
    5 -
    (May even be more here)

Then we will also have the RJ trilogy (If he still gets it)

Hard to do this. They are all, at a minimum, good films.

    1. Empire Strikes Back - Easily my favorite
    2. Revenge of the Sith - Love this movie
    3. Return of the Jedi - Nearly tied with Revenge of the Sith
    4. A New Hope - The one that started it all!
    5. The Phantom Menace - People like to bash this, but I think it's fantastic!
    6. Rouge One - My favorite of the Disney era so far. Keeps the continuity and adds to the saga. Love it.
    7. Attack of the Clones - It has grown on me over the years. Something cool happens in this film like every 10 minutes!
    8. The Last Jedi - It's a really well made movie based on some weird (off-putting?) story choices. I'll need to see where this goes, but it sort of felt like an ending. Its the first Star Wars movie that left me not caring what happens next. Will re-evaluate after Ep 9 comes out.
    9. The Force Awakens - This one is a fun space action movie, and that's about it. I enjoy it, but it doesn't add much aside from that Rey is a person that exists. What little intrigue it added, was squashed in TLJ. I rank it last, behind TLJ, because it's the least creative Star Wars movie.

    2. Return of the Jedi
    3. A New Hope
    4. The Phantom Menace
    5. Attack of the Clones
    6. The Empire Strikes Back
    7. Rogue One
I love all of the above

    8. The Force Awakens
    9. The Last Jedi
    I detest these ones

The original saga is amazing, and Rogue One is a great addition to it.

Episodes VII and VIII only serve to undermine the saga for me so they’re at the bottom, separated from the rest. I’ll be absolutely amazed if they’re ever able to make one as offputting as The Last Jedi.

I actually find The Last Jedi extremely interesting just as a movie on its own, but the story it presents has no place in the Star Wars saga whatsoever in my eyes.

I’m looking forward to Solo, at least.

I have what seems to be a common tendency to group 'em into three tiers.

Tier 1 - these just work for me, story and character-wise; none of the goofy stuff takes me out of the world or the story.
    1. ESB
    2. ANH
    3. TLJ
    4. TFA
Tier 2 - films I enjoy very much despite some flaws, mostly tonal inconsistency that breaks the spell at times.
    5. ROTJ
    6. R1
    7. TPM (almost its own tier but I simply enjoy it much more than the other prequels)
Tier 3 - these are simply too clunky and flat for me to just go along for the ride, although they have great moments.
    8. ROTS
    9. AOTC (although the Obi-Wan thread is among my favorite isolated stories in the film canon)

Sentimentally I would rank the TCW feature higher than some of these as my first SW theatrical experience with my children and the kickoff to our being able to geek out about SW together; years later the three of us together are more likely to rewatch and discuss TCW and Rebels episodes than several of the films! Ironically ESB is their least favorite SW film of all.

    1. Star Wars
    2. The Empire Strikes Back
(Realistically, no new SW films are going to get into my top 2)

    3. Revenge of the Sith
    4. The Last Jedi (3 viewings so far)
    5. The Force Awakens
    6. Return of the Jedi
    7. Attack of the Clones
(These ones may shift up or down a spot depending on when I write the list)

    8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    9. The Phantom Menace
(I like, but don't necessarily love these two)

I'm still not sure exactly what I think about Rogue One (after 3 or 4 viewings; only once in the theater).

I grew up with the Prequels so naturally I prefer them over the OT anyday. However 'growing up with them' is just a minor reason why I love them so much, but i'll leave my paragraphs on my PT love for the PT forum :p

I'm not exactly sure why I don't include R1 in my rankings. I thought it was a great movie, but it just doesn't get ranked with the saga holistically which is why i think i dont put it in there and really tbh I dont know where to put it if i were to include it. It just doesn't feel right or fit anywhere.

P.S I love all 7 movies, the only move out of my rankings that I genuinely don't like is TLJ.
